I have been here a few times and we absolutely love this place.
I’ll leave reviews for two separate occasions, one for their much-talked-about sparkling afternoon tea and another for a Saturday morning breakfast.
The restaurant is charming, with an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere that sets the perfect mood for an afternoon tea. The selection for the afternoon tea was delightful, featuring an assortment of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, and a tempting variety of pastries and cakes. Each item was thoughtfully presented and full of flavor; the pastries, in particular, were a highlight, with a great balance of sweetness and texture, the chef even came out to speak with us about how the cakes and pastries are made! Everything is homemade and the chef prepares everything on site, with only the freshest ingredients.
We went on a Saturday morning for breakfast and my daughter absolutely loved it! We all did, the food is always so fresh and delicious, the drinks too. We love coming here as it’s always great value for money and only the best ingredients.
However, while the food is impressive, the service can be a bit slow, especially on busy days. The staff are always warm and courteous, but there were times when we had to wait a little longer for food and additional requests. It seems this is a common experience, particularly during peak hours.
Despite the slight delay in service, the overall experience is always very enjoyable. Blueberry's / Jerome's Kitchen offers a lovely afternoon tea with a good range of treats, complemented by a glass of bubbly. It's a great spot for a relaxed afternoon with friends or family—just be patient if you're visiting during a...
Read moreI am local and would therefore love to support local businesses, but my experience on my last visit has led to me actively avoiding Blueberrys, and encouraging others to try other local cafés instead. Let's start with the good: the server was great. She was polite and the coffee was nice. Unfortunately the bad far outweighed the good. I could hear the (French) chef getting angry with an employee, who was female, and no older than 20, and he began shouting at her about how she had put one bowl inside another and they had got stuck, and that each bowl cost £24. This turned into a long rant about how stupid she was and how idiotic she was. He then proceeded to swear at length in French. As a French teacher, and fluent speaker of the language, I was thrilled to get some free, authentic listening practice of the kind of vocabulary that sadly gets left out of the textbooks these days. Overall, if you have a child who is studying A-level or university French, I would recommend coming here so that they can pick up some of the language's coarser turns of phrase. However, I won't be returning due to feeling really bad for the employee stuck in the kitchen with the chef, and due to the awkward looks the server and I kept exchanging as I was hurriedly finishing my coffee. The food is middling at best, and often burnt, or uninspiring. The menu is limited, and there are hardly ever any pastries to buy. Honestly, go somewhere else for nicer food, and a calmer environment (unless you need the French listening practice, as...
Read moreA lovely sunny Sunday afternoon and we were there for a high tea that was a birthday gift from number one sun to his mum. The cafe is small and if we had not reserved we wouldn't have got in. The atmosphere was lively with a Sikh family of six and another group of six Chinese students being our main companions for the afternoon. The tables and chairs were a bit too small and slightly rickety, and because of staff absence there were only two young folks running the entire event, one a lovely small Italian girl who worked her socks off waitressing receiving guests taking orders and clearing tables. It was obvious she was doing the work of at least two or even three people and I hope she was properly paid a lot extra for her heroic efforts and her happy cheerfulness! The second member of staff was also extremely busy. He was a young French fellow who was cooking up a storm making Sunday lunch plates and organising high teas plates. Despite being extremely busy the two of them pulled of a polished and professional performance and even had the time and energy to be friendly and even to chat with their customers. The food, when it came, was plentiful... even too much to enjoy all at once so a " doggy bag " was obligingly provided. It was dainty fun varied and quite delicious. All in all we had a fun afternoon especially because of the staff and the lovely nosh. We...
