It is about the right things -- but the best thing has to be GREAT FOOD. John, the owner, works the front of the house. He is a consummate host and cares about what matters.
My wife and I showed-up near 1-hour after a crazy busy time, it was early and John could see 3 or 4 tables were winding down. He told us to go kill 15-20 minutes. When we came back, he had it all set for us.
To get our of our rut, we asked the server to suggest the meal. She did and it was AMAZING.
From there, we did a trust-fall into his arms. The staff know the items of value -- a balance of price and quality.
She got the Strozzapreti Boscaiola and I had the Linguine con gamberi. We liked it so much, we split the meal. It was served at the perfect temp with pasta that was cooked just right. The dishes burst with flavor. The second night, we were in a pizza mood. Boscaiola and Cathy had Marinara. They were spot on. The quality really shows with a good pizza pie. We also had some great wines. The team can give pairing suggestions.
The quality of the meal is not just good but a great value. We know good ingredients when we taste them. Corner are easily cut -- not here. Bon Gusto's uses true important supplies.
We liked the food and our experience the first night so well, we retuned the next night. The pasta was perfect. The pizza was just right. John's parents came over from Italy and he knows how to get the food right and treat people well. When I'm in London, I'll be back.
My hope, next time John stopped by my place in the US, I am able to make some amazing feed and great...
Read moreI am utterly appalled by the experience my family and I had. On a sunny Sunday afternoon around 4 PM, we sat down on the completely empty outside tables, looking forward to a pleasant time together. However, we were informed that the terrace was not being served, which was perplexing considering the beautiful weather and ample seating available.
The situation only worsened when we were rudely told by the waitress that Bon Gusto is a "restaurant" and not a place for just dessert and coffee, which they assumed I wanted from merely glancing at the dessert menu. We were then condescendingly advised to visit the coffee shop across the street if we wanted just coffee. As someone who works in high-end hospitality, I was shocked by this treatment.
What truly broke my heart was my 2-year-old daughter's excitement for ice cream, which was cruelly dashed by the staff's disgusting behavior. The level of rudeness and lack of basic customer service skills displayed was staggering.
This experience raises serious concerns about the service standards and potential discriminatory practices at Bon Gusto. Such behavior not only reflects poorly on the establishment but also potentially breaches UK customer service regulations and consumer rights. It’s distressing to think how many other customers might have been subjected to this kind of treatment.
I sincerely hope the management takes immediate action to rectify these glaring issues. No family should have to endure such a disappointing and...
Read moreHorrific experience, absolutely disappointed as my expectations were quite high, considering the fact that this was meant to be an "authentic" Italian restaurant. Disgusting customer service with average food. Don't waste your time! Their manager is totally rude and disrespectful with no sense of customer care!
In response to the reply from the restaurant manager. My friend finished her risotto half way, to actually be polite until she could no longer tolerate it. To add to the risotto being undercooked, it had a gritty texture as if the mushrooms may have been sandy. As to causing a scene, you only need to read previous reviews about this manager's attitude towards complaints from other customers. My friend asked for the meal to be discounted at the very least and not for the meal to be removed. The response from our table was owing to the manager trying to insinuate that we were after a free meal by claiming that it had been eaten 3/4 way. This is insulting and very demeaning to have been treated that way in front of other customers so the response was warranted and fair. To say we were “causing a scene” was a gross exaggeration. To add further insult to injury, she suggested that the preparation had been in line with “Italian” cooking. My friend including myself are a huge fan of risotto and eaten it countless times not only in Italy, but also prepared by Italian friends on occasion. The entire tone was defensive. You...
