Stopped outside of store by two employees who suspected I had stolen a bottle of orange. Tried to explain to them that a member of staff in the self service area had given me permission to swap a faulty bottle I had just purchased with a new one. They did not believe me , so I went back into the store with them.and the employee confirmed to them I was telling the truth. I could see why it may have looked like I had stolen the bottle of orange, and they had had stopped me because they were unaware of the situation. However, I still felt embarrassed about being stopped in a public area and accused of shoplifting. As far as I was concerned, I had done my shopping and was going about my business. The only thing that had been stolen , were minutes out of my day. I could have been difficult, and refused to go back and clear things up , which I believe would have been within my rights. Having determined that they were wrong, I asked the Security / Store Detective for an apology. He insisted that he would not apologise, and that he had nothing to apologise for. He implied that I was at fault because I had swapped the juice without having a member of staff accompany me, even though it had been established by the staff member in the self service that she had instructed me to do this. Even if she had made an error in saying this, I was not responsible. I have contacted Marks customer service to complain about this incident, and have been told they will...
Read moreThis is my local grocery store, so I really appreciate having it next door. I think the produce and meat and cheese are at a good standard. It works very well for my day to day shops. However they are not so good at stocking some important basics like spices, brown sugar or various other ingredients needed for baking or any specific recipe. I can sometimes find more of these things at Waitrose, though I often need to leave the Victoria area altogether to find basics. Both grocery stores cater almost exclusively to the office workers in the area, leaving a slightly underserved market for the rapidly growing residential population here. The reality is that we need a larger grocery store on the St James side of Victoria as it's quite a slog to go all the way to Sainsburys on Wilton Road. I really wish M&S would ditch most of its clothing retail, but not the excellent cards and wrapping paper, to make space for a proper butcher's counter and more basics. Also, just a small comment. M&S actually carries some pretty good wine which I buy and drink regularly. I would take it to my friends as well if they would not insist on putting M&S labels on it. Some of the bottles are expensive and I really don't want to spend more than £15 on a bottle with a store...
Read moreNow I never leave negative reviews, I find the best in everyone and everywhere. Usually but really in this case I feel like I must protest. I tried on some trousers in Marks here in Victoria, now I hate clothes shopping and I usually go to TK Maxx as they have a very chilled and laid back vibe, even the staff in the changing areas. But I got some great combat trousers from this shop last summer so I went back. I located some trousers and went to the changing area. And no one was there. I paused and then a rude member of staff appeared and had a go at me, she then had another go at me for trying to go into the entirely unmarked bra fitting room. I managed to try the trousers on they were uniformly awful, I returned to the same abandoned area and started to hang them on the rail. Rude woman then reappeared and had another go at me. Oddly as I left the shop at speed so she couldn't fit in another harangue, a lovely smiley security guy said goodbye. Shame i'll not be back! In the interests of fairness it is totally possible all the other staff who work here are great but rude woman has certainly put me...
