This was my second visit to The Bull at Wanstead. It was not somewhere I would have chosen to return to but my friends called the shots. There were four of us. I asked for an IPA. It was unavailable. I cannot remember the lager my colleague asked for but again they had run out. The two ladies wanted either a Chardonnay on a Pinot Grigio. Nothing was available for under £30 which they didn't think was reasonable value so they chose something cheaper (£24.00 and weaker in volume as it turned out). After settling in we returned to the bar requesting our meals. An easy choice as it was the 2 for 1 burger night. I asked for one burger to be well done. I was told "they were all well done". I assume he meant by well done that I didn't want one badly done! I explained I wanted it VERY well done as my wife prefers it that way. When the meals arrived I asked which was the one that was cooked very well done. The waitress said the kitchen hadn't received any such instruction. To be fair to her she was concerned that we got what we wanted and offered to take it back. However, my wife said it would be ok as she didn't want to eat separately to everyone else. The burgers were actually very nice. After dinner we went to the bar again to order desserts. Our orders were taken and it wasn't long before someone came to the table and told us that the order I wanted was unavailable. I knew The Bull had been taken over by new people so I enquired how long ago the new owners (the Livelyhood chain) had taken over. I thought if it was very recently they might have been experiencing teething troubles. I was advised it had changed hands six months ago. Enough time, I believe, to have sorted out any problems. It wasn't a terrible experience but it did exactly inspire me to want to return. The bill for four...

I recently visited The Pub with my canine companion and wanted to share my thoughts on the overall experience as she is a bull breed dog and was made to feel unwelcome by one waitress
On the positive side, the food was outstanding, and the majority of the staff provided excellent service. The atmosphere was ok, and I appreciated the pub's dog-friendly policy, which initially seemed welcoming.
However, a particular incident with one waitress left a sour taste. Despite being in a dog-friendly environment, she expressed fear towards my dog, a well-behaved and friendly companion. This resulted in a somewhat uncomfortable situation, as she singled out my dog while others of different breeds were freely interacting with patrons.
The inconsistency in enforcing the dog-friendly policy was disappointing and affected our overall enjoyment. It's essential for establishments that claim to be dog-friendly to ensure a consistent and welcoming environment for all breeds.
In conclusion, The Pub offers great food and a generally pleasant atmosphere, but the experience was marred by the mentioned incident. I hope the management takes steps to address such inconsistencies and maintains a truly inclusive atmosphere for all patrons and their furry friends, I mean after all of you claim to be a dog friendly pub I suggest hiring staff that aren’t afraid any...
Read moreMain reason for this comment is the extreme cleaning of tables by their staff. I was there for after dinner drinks on a Friday night and a young staff member was cleaning tables with toxic spray but over-spraying to the point where the air was so full of this chemical spray, my eyes stung, chest became tight and sore. We had to keep moving tables to get away from it. It was so uncomfortable in the end we had to leave. He seemed young and perhaps not experienced in cleaning? He sprayed a small table about 20 times until it had a few millimetres of spray over the entire surface of the table which he then wiped off. He did this constantly over half hour as customers left their tables. I don’t think he knew that you only need spray a table once and not the entire surface so it’s covered with this toxic liquid. As a result it was floating through the air. There was no ventilation. It made it impossible sit and enjoy your drinks. I went home coughing with a sore, burning chest (asthma reaction). I’m writing this feedback here because the pub does not advertise a direct email. Please train your staff who are clearly young and maybe never cleaned in their life until now. Also suggest converting to non toxic cleaning items. It’s bad for your health and also that...
