London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
šŸš‡Ā Gunnersbury šŸŗĀ Ā£5.85 Amstel The Bull’s Head is located on the banks of the river Thames overlooking Oliver’s Island in Chiswick. The nearest station is Kew Bridge mainline, I got the Overground to Gunnersbury. An Inn has stood on the riverside here for over 400 years, its most famous patron was supposedly Oliver Cromwell. This pub is Grade II listed and was built in the 18th Century. Actor Donald Pleasance lived next door. This pub is a warren of rooms with various nooks and crannies on multiple layers. The decor is traditional with some smart contemporary touches. There are two serveries located in the middle of the pub which are small but perfectly formed. Across the ceiling are oak beams, the floors are a combination of carpets, boards and tiles. There is plenty seating throughout which is all very comfortable. At the front of the pub are plenty of benches with great views across the river. The beer choice was good and offers a selection of three cask ales and a decent lineup of continental lagers. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was excellent, price point was below average which was pleasing. The food menu is pub classics, Fish & Chips costs Ā£16.29. I arrived around 3pm on a sweltering Saturday afternoon in May. The pub was fairly quiet inside as most punters were soaking up the sun outside by the river. There was a lovely calmness to this pub, the various little sections mean you have a piece of pub to yourself. The service was first class, the chap who served me was engaging, upbeat and courteous. Visiting The Bull’s Head was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Even though the decor is smart, there is still ā€œYe Olde' Pubā€ vibes here. The beer is on point, the service great and the location tranquil and scenic. If you’re off on a stroll along this stretch of the river, be sure to pay a visit. ā„¹ļø Info correct on visiting 11.05.24

I wish I never ate there although the location is idyllic. Sadly my experience ended with food poisoning. Outside tables were sticky and dirty. To get anyone to clean them you have to wait for ever. Staff has a PhD in not noticing customers, so you have to waive and call out as loud as you can for them to look up from wherever they look to avoid eye contact with the customer. Worse still was the food. I had a massive food poisoning there when we took our client out on 20/05. Both me and my business partner ordered risotto with seabass and prawns. Hers arrived cold so she returned it and got fish and chips instead. Mine was tepid and I ate a little bit of that when I realised the food tasted like it was reheated from the day before. The rice actually had an acrid taste and fish was chewy. I ate maybe 1/4 of it but it was too late. I ate enough of it for the damage to be done. Started feeling sick as soon as we left the place. By the time I got home I was in excruciating pain and next morning the armageddon of vomiting and diarrhoea + the worst headache ever, started and lasted for 3 days. I didn't recover until Saturday, lost over £1000 in income as I am self-employed and missed out on our home staging assignment, lost tickets to Chelsea Flower show. I contacted the company but just as I thought, they have fobbed me off with "we will investigate fully". That was weeks ago and 0 response since. Well, they have fobbed off the wrong person. I will now make sure that this does not end there.

Visited around 1pm today for a celebratory lunch. Everything from the first moment was pretty much perfect. The pub was fairly quiet, so we were served quickly by Sarah who greeted us warmly. The barrel ran out when my pint was almost poured. I was quite happy to take it as it was, but Sarah brought a top-up a few minutes later to our table. We were lucky to get a table upstairs in what felt like a snug, with a great view of the river. We ordered starters and main course, all of which came in good time and were well-presented and very tasty. The slow-cooked steak & ale pie was particularly good, full of meat in a rich sauce. The veg were a tiny bit disappointing - a nice medley, but slightly watery and presumably heated from frozen - but that didn’t detract wildly from the overall enjoyment. The chips & mash were both tasty. The star of the show, though, and what really made the day extra special was Sarah, who, despite appearing to be the only bar staff on duty, also serving all food, was cheerful and helpful throughout, with a warm smile, friendly banter and a great customer service ethic. Nothing was too much trouble and she really made our day. This was our second visit this summer and on both occasions we have enjoyed both the food & drink and the service. Thank you all. We’ll be back soon!

One of the worst experiences ever! We booked a table for dinner and upon arrival ignored by 3 staff members who walked past us didn't even acknowledge us to even say " we will be with you in a moment" after waiting 6 minutes I personally went upto someone at the bar and informed him we had a booking and if someone was going to show us to the table? He took us to a table which was dirty and said he would be right back to clean it and a waiter will be over right away to take drinks and food order, we waited 10min and none of the waitresses or waiters even bothered to attend to us or acknowledge us, 1 waitress just seemed like she didn't even wanna be there, the couple sitting next to us pretty much had same experience and said "don't hold your breath in these guys coming to take your order better off ordering via the app" so we moved ourselves to a more cleaner table and proceeded to order via the app, 30min have gone by and still not 1 member of staff even approached us to take our drinks order it wasn't even busy , so we ordered via the app, drinks came 15min later then our starters which are OK nothing special, then whilst we were still eating our starters they brought our mains out and just sat it on the table next to us and said here your main, I questioned the waitress that were still eating our starters how can you bring out the main already? To which she just gave a smirk and said I'll just leave it there for you guys. Like ok you didn't really answer my question but thanks. My wife lasagne was abysmal and even had a long white hair in it and she refused to eat anymore, my burger was soo dry I almost choked trying to swallow it , the burger was overcooked, bacon was like crisp and no sauce in the burger, i wasn't even asked if I would like any sauces with my fries when waitress dropped it to me, I only had 3 bites and gave up eating it was just tasteless and dry, we finally managed to get a waitress attention regarding the hair in my wife's food to which the waitress took the plate and I requested a refund for both of the foods as we barely had 2 bites and the waitress we get that done for you right away, no one came to ask what the problem was the management was hiding behind the bar if he is the manager that is, we finished our drink and I asked the bar tender when will my refund be processed he said because done on app they will have to do it at end of the night and to expect it back by tomorrow which I will be checking, and even then not one staff member came to say thank you for coming nor any acknowledgement from any staff. whoever owns this pub I would hire more customer orientated staff who are polite and attentive and get rid of these current so called employees or give them better training because in this time and current situation you need all the punters you can get and with these current waiters and waitresses even management they're just going to bring this pub down and we were not the only people feeling that way as a family sitting behind us had enough of the service and also kicked off with the waiters regarding service. The guy in grey who was heavy build and tall (who I think is mgt) ignored us when we walked In and stood infront of him to take our booking only to just walk away from us and not even look at us really needs to start realising he's in a customer facing role and not just chit chat with his fellow employees and people he knows and actually realise he's at work and to attend to customers!I would seriously avoid going to this pub, the city barge and Bell & Crown know how to truly be a pub and actually have people working there that want to work! I will be waiting to see if I get My refund tomorrow if not I will be contacting Greene King organisatio personally as I know the people high up In the chain informing...

The worst customer service experience (provided by an employee) I've ever been subjected to in the UK. There is a waitress working there who's been treating the venue as if it's her won house, where she can do and say whatever she pleases. She has no regard or respect to the customers. She is a terribly rude and bossy lady, ready for a fight. She's provocative and challenging when answering questions from the customers. Her body language means I'm bored and fed up of working here and can't stand those unwelcoming customers anylonger. I am normally a respectful and patient person towards others but she managed to upset and made me very very angry at her. She must be a very rich lady or has no bills to pay a the end of the month. I'm warning whoever is reading this post to be aware of the referred lady and do not put up with her arrogant manner and bad services. The new lady (current) manager is sweet but was useless dealing with my complaint, justifying the place was very busy that day. Not good enough. I did not accept her poor feedback and still am going to forward a formal complaint to the highest management. I shall return there because I live 10 minutes away and it's not fair that the unpleasant waitress remain working there and me having to find another place to enjoy myself. She should get a more suitable job matching her "professional profile", something that allows her to bully people about. She's in the wrong job. Whenever I decide to return there, I will not tolerate her carry on and if she pushes her luck again, I will definitely call the police and file a complaint against her. It sounds rash, but if anyone reads the current reviews you will find out that I'm not the only one complaining about her. My only star goes to the waiter(although he deserves 5), who first served me and apparently didn't allow "the busy day" affect his mood, smile and professionalism. You saved the night, well done and I look forward to being served by you again...
