I've been living in Beckenham for over a year and have tried all coffee shops of the area. I can say that Nero has the best coffee drinks. Not the best food but the best coffee drinks. The staff are very kind, polite and friendly and that makes a hell of a difference!
It is true that consistency is an issue. Not all baristas deliver the same quality of Oat Mocha but I can tell that they are all ok and some of them are GREAT. The best oat Mocha comes in the regular size. The coffee seems too diluted in the "grande" option.
There is a new Pret A Manger in the high street now so my wife and I grab food from them and coffee drinks at Nero.
I don't know their names but would like to highlight how impressed I am but the quality of the service and the friendliness that baristas show towards the customers. They are all great but kudos:
to the barista that is always wearing a face mask (not because of the face mask but because he is a good, polite and efficient barista) to the black barista with great hair and caramel colored eyes for always delivering quality with a genuine smile. to the tall, shaved head (or bald), big barista for having such a great personality and delivering quality with great energy.
The coffee and the staff are the reason for my wife and I are come back nearly twice a week, sometimes even more.
Congrats to the management team for putting together such a great team! It suits Beckenham very well!
I'd like to add a few things: the management team could invest in the facade. The blue is not blue anymore and no longer looks beautiful. The high street, the customers and the staff deserve a better looking facade.
Thanks for the great coffee and the...
Read moreNever have an issue with this place when ordering through an app, but visiting is often unpleasant. Most of the staff are lovely, but the young lad with the brown hair and goatee who frequently works here is rude on a consistent basis. Even when you're the only person in line he seems incredibly impatient, to the point where neither my partner nor I feel welcome to purchase more than a coffee (as whenever I order a cake or a croissant he seems annoyed - shoving them in a bag and dropping them on the counter in front of us like we're wasting his time). He doesn't answer to niceties, and once you've paid he immediately turns to the person behind you and asks them what they're having - rinse and repeat. He seems to slap on the charm when older women come in, however, and will pet name and converse with them openly. This unfortunately creates a further disparity and makes this particular Nero an immensely uninviting store to visit in person. I never enjoyed working customer service either, but the least you could do is "you're welcome" when someone thanks you, instead of blanking them. Shame as Nero's always been...
Read moreWent to this store and asked on my way in if it was okay to use the bathroom. The lady vacuuming said yes so I said ‘thank you’ and went straight to the bathroom. The bathroom was very unclean but as a new mum, I couldn’t wait. On my way out, the lady was vacuuming still so I said thank you but didn’t wait for a reply as I knew they were trying to close. On my way out I said to my mum walking with me ‘isn’t everything in here lovely’ as it all looked so clean and the food looked good. Just as I was leaving the woman aggressively shouted ‘you’re welcome’ as if I had not said thank you twice. Shouting at a woman with a newborn baby in the buggy is disgusting, distasteful and plain rude. If I hadn’t said thank you twice, maybe her unprofessional idm may have been slightly understandable. However it is no fault of my own that she could not hear me over her vacuum. As a frequent customer of cafe Nero, I think I’ll start opting for the smaller businesses...
