I have been meaning to give these guys a review for a while. Carnival Coffee is my favourite shop in Penge, and my favourite place to buy coffee!!

Last year I had an eye-opening experience in a coffee shop in Boston. This was exceptional coffee, and it made me realise how good coffee can actually taste, when you have top quality, freshly ground beans and the coffee is brewed correctly. Since then, I began to take more of an interest in coffee, invested in some equipment and started ordering beans directly from speciality roasters in the UK online.

Towards the end of the year, after grabbing some bits from Sainsburys, I was delighted to find a new coffee shop had opened nearby. I immediately went in to sample the goods, and was even more delighted to see these guys roasted their own beans on-site. After sampling an exceptional pour-over, I purchased a bag of beans and went on my way.

I was equally impressed when I returned home by the quality of the beans, and I have since become a regular customer, signing up for their subscription delivery service and popping into the shop regularly to grab a cup or a bag of beans when I run out. I love the fact I can get such amazing coffee from a shop which is only a short walk from home, and I love to support local businesses.

Carnival source beans from various places globally, and roast them on site. They’re not the cheapest, but I’ve found you get what you pay for with coffee, and drinking a few cups of the good stuff every day really changes your life if you love coffee! I occasionally order from other roasters online who may be a bit cheaper, but I can really taste the difference in Carnival’s product.

Visiting the shop is a joy, it has a great vibe and the owners and all the staff are all super-friendly, welcoming and helpful. I’m already looking forward to...

Hello Everyone , I must say that Carnival Coffee Roasters is by far my favourie coffee venue 🤎 ! Apologies to other cafés I occasionally visit BUT all aspects of this business get 5 🌠 . Each customer is welcomed however busy they are . The service is quick for each of the usual coffee choices . Just a little longer for those requiring more time input from the barista ! The staff are REALLY knowledgeable on all aspects of Coffee plus patient and helpful . I firstly like to try some of the coffee varieties that they import from all over the world - which is helped by their informative 'menu boards' which details ; tasting notes ( also origin , variety & the processing method ) . The drinks are all clearly priced - which is good too . Also , the roasting actually happens on-site (Tuesdays) - when the adaptable space changes to accommodate the work of roasting and packaging etc. & there is a bit less seating area . I like that they support small growers sustainably - environmentally and economically . I definitely value quality & ethics . I hope that Carnival Coffee Roasters had enough votes to win at least one award at this weeks "London Coffee Festival" ceremony . Thank you , for reading my long review . Eliz . P.S. The Latte Art is worth the...

Popped in here the other day for a couple of coffees. First off, £4.50 for a cup is a lot so admittedly I was perhaps expecting a lot… but what I didn’t expect was to pay for the coffees and then stand around watching the barista removing items of clothing, chatting to a friend about their MOT (imagine being of less interest to someone than their MOT!), leaving the serving area to share a long, lingering hug with said friend…

Eventually a colleague realised I was still waiting and made the coffees for me. They also gave me a voucher for a free coffee. It was only when I got home that I noticed the voucher had expired four months earlier. I won’t...

Blown. Away. That it's £5 for a filter coffee(!) and kicking myself for not saying anything - because worst still it's not enjoyable to drink. But the people serving (and their knowledge) as always are great so that's the 4 stars tbh. Brought my own cup so lucky enough to get it for £4.70. I've worked in a couple of hipster London cafes that are also obsessed with coffee and this mark-up is madness, especially for the lowest input drink on the menu. Maybe offer a taster when someone orders a filter coffee, like with a pricey bottle of wine.... :/ ??
