I've frequented this pub much less since it was closed for 10 days in October 2024 because of a bedbug infestation.
But also because the bar service is (and has always been) so flaming poor. This evening (Saturday) was fairly common. I arrived about 6. I and another bloke were at the bar. He rightly got served first, but then someone else appeared at the far end of the bar and one of the other staff attends to them without bothering to see who else was waiting or shouting the usual ""Who's next?" like they've been trained to do.
Then three other blokes walk up to the bar and get served by the same two bar staff. At this point I gave up and walked out - which I do 1 in 3/4 times because of the piss-poor bar service.
I'm giving one star only because the pub does do a decent range of dark and pale real ales in all seasons, and at cheap prices (currently £2.56). All the other elements of the pub (e.g. food) are sub-standard or so variable it's best not to chance it.
ADVICE: If you do decide to have a few drinks at this pub, then buy two drinks per person at a time as the service is so variable, if you do manage to get served quickly first time it's likely you'll be waiting quite a while on your next visit to the bar. Plus, eat before entering, or before you order a meal look round to see if there's many other people ordering because if there are you could be waiting a while. And, buy the specials of the day if there is one, as unless it's quiet the meal you'll receive will be of variable quality.
VERDICT: The good and cheap ale doesn't make up for the piss-poor service and poor quality/cardboard meals. I'll markedly reduce my visits to the Moon until...
Read moreRacist Management! It was 3 degrees and I walked in after school run and usually I would of came with another parent but who introduced me to get coffee whilst I was on a very important phone call and was told by management who was loud and abrupt that I was" banned for making customers uncomfortable".I asked for an explanation of exactly what I had done to make these customers uncomfortable and was denied. Another colleague had come and was raising her voice but yet accused me of making a scene. I was the only black person in the establishment to my knowlege that day because it was just past 9:30am. I don't speak to no one and always polite if I order at the till! I was told I don't have to be given any other reason. As an establishment if your customers are feeling uncomfortable by a black person wearing their coat hoody because of freezing temperatures outside and or for whatever any other reasoning and you ban the black person then tell me if you're also not the problem and or racist? I called and email their headquarters with the topic of matter because being banned for life for being black is something out of the 1950s and unless you're not racist then what is it!! NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I BEEN BARRED FOR LIFE FOR BEING BLACK...
Read moreI would rate a 0 star if I could. My boyfriend and I were turned down at the bar because our driving licence was bilingual (we are Welsh). The woman that served us took our ID’s to the back to show a manager and returned saying we can’t except them, we’ve never seen driving licenses like this before(pointing at the Welsh written part). I then explained that it just says “driving license” in Welsh. Again, the woman went to the back with our driving license and said “no we can’t serve you with that on your license”. In disbelief we asked to see the manager who frankly said “I’ve never seen a driving license with that on before, I don’t want to risk my license I can’t serve you”. Without being served we walked out in disbelief not being able to be served a drink because of our nationality, because our driving license was bilingual. There was no other reason to turn us away, we were completely sober (this was going to be our second drink of the day) and we are both 23 years old, which is shown clearly by our date of births on our VALID...
