Chango Empanadas Highgate — Restaurant in London

Highly anticipated visit, turned into the worst hospitality experience we had.

I often see the place when commuting to and from work, and it has always been on my list to try. Finally, we decided to pop by on the weekend to try out the empanadas.

The person taking the order didn't say a single word to us when we were ordering, they seemed more fixated on the doodling they were doing on a piece of parchment paper. The card reader turned on, we paid and not a single breath wasted on a "thank you" or a smile towards our direction.

As we waited on our order to be prepared, more customers arrived, and orders were coming in. We were confused at how their order was fulfilled before ours when we've been waiting for quite some time. We finally decided to ask what happened to our order, the workers also seemed to be confused. They asked us again what we ordered and they finally went to prepare it. Somehow they've forgotten about our order.

We finally got our order and headed out, still excited to try out the empanadas. To our surprise two of the three we ordered were still cold on the inside.

I visited once again today, on the 3rd January, Chango in Highgate. I cannot recommend this particular Chango enough! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the team truly goes above and beyond to make every visit a special experience.

A special shoutout to Mariam and Hasti, who are absolute stars! They are always so cheerful and kind, creating a friendly and inviting environment. During my visit today, Mariam, left me speechless with her incredible memory and attention to detail. She remembered the usual order of a customer she hadn’t seen in 5 months—and remembered my usual order too! It's such a rare and thoughtful touch that makes you feel valued and appreciated as a customer.

The food and drinks are, of course, fantastic (as always), and it’s evident the team takes pride in every aspect of their work. Every visit feels like catching up with friends, and I always leave with a smile. They have been very welcoming to me when i had just moved to Highgate.

First and foremost this has to be the most appalling environment and unprofessional setting I have witnessed. I am basing my opinion on the environment rather than the food. Management needs to step in here and hire well-mannered staff before this place loses all their valuable customers.

The two ladies that work on the weekend always speak in their own language. The younger looking worker was cursing at the older one and they seemed to be in a heated argument in front of all their customers. I recently moved to Highgate and decided to give this place a try two Sundays in a row but won't be coming here again. When I came the first time, there was a boy wearing glasses flirting with one of the female cashiers and playing obnoxiously loud music.
