Lovely place! Glad I didn’t look at the reviews beforehand or I would have missed out on the most charming lunch place in Highgate. We wandered around looking for a place to eat and this was by far the busiest and most convivial. We had lasagna and pie and finished with a cupcake. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The cafe was cozy and clean, and the service was friendly — the family that run the place are wonderful. Gail’s are everywhere but this is one of a kind. We’ll be back.

Local (not chain) business - the main reason to visit. The coffe is okey, the cakes too. Unfortunately, everything is just average. A huge downside is that cakes and pastries are not labeled, there are no lists of ingredients and no price list. The staff are polite but uninterested. Non-dairy milk options available. Savory meals also sold. The saucer of my coffe cup was a bit dirty - that was very unpleasant.

This is a delightful cafe in the main road with a friendly welcome. The window displays are fantastic. My daughter in law and I loved our visit here and our coffee and cake. The interior glass display cabinet is full of exceptional produce, including take away snacks. Only 1 regret...we live too far away to visit each week!

Huge disappointment and regret about money wasted. It looks nice from outside but once inside... First of all, there was no price list for pantry stuff (only for drinks). There were no item labels either, so we had to ask about each and every one what that thing was and what's inside.

After all, we ordered 2 cups of coffee and 3 pantry items. Scone was awful: dry, not fresh at all, it tasted old actually. They didn't warm it up either, so it was - besides dry - also cold and hard. Instead of clotted cream there was butter I believe, very soft, almost melted, actually it tasted pure fat. Dry, cold, old scone with a layer of fat on it.... I felt nauseous 20 min later...

Place to sit downstairs was stinky and uncomfortable, definitely far from cozy. It is actually a kind of small hall in front of toilet. At the end we were shocked by the...

The reason I come here is to support independent proprietors. Pros : gorgeous array of cakes and pastries. Nice selection of cooked savouries. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Cons: Where they can improve is the savoury food is quite bland. For example the couscous can be vastly improved if they cooked that in chicken stock and added some herbs. The lasagne and quiche were quite bland also and the type of veges they are using in the lasagne are just basic frozen vege mix. They could add some more interesting veg like eggplant and zucchini for example. The staff are consistently very friendly and polite, so any other comments,on here saying to the contrary are just making that up or trying to sabotage,...

Unconvinced by anyone putting anything more than 3 stars for this place. Not unless things change considerably day to day, which is possible. Think the worst part really is the deceptiveness of the lack of pricing, and how that equates to the experience and food quality. The drinks were OK, as was the pecan pie we had, but the cottage pie was just so bland it didn't justify the seeming expense when it came to the bill; nearly £28 for drinks, a main and a sweet. The staff were pleasant but by no means personable. The atmosphere inside is just so different and lackluster from what you expect looking at the front. If you just want a pastry/sweet and coffee, yeah it's OK but anything beyond that, could...
