🚇 Highgate 🍺 £6.60 Staropramen ❤️ A Highgate hostelry back from the dead. . The Crown pub is located at the top end of Highgate High Street. The nearest tube is Highgate which is a ten minute walk up Southwood Lane. . This pub was built in 1861 as The Rose & Crown. In 2012 the pub sadly closed its doors and was converted to a bakery. Last month, the amazing people at The Northern Union Pub Company reopened this pubs doors, these are the same people that reopened The Winchester close by in October last year, Gods work. . I was invited to visit the pub by Jack the new Guv’nor, lovely chap who knows his stuff. I also got to meet the team who were a lovely lot, very knowledgable and personable. . This is a one bar pub that is split level and has a cosy traditional feel to it. The walls are painted pale green which sets a soothing tone to the ambiance. The furniture is a collection of wooden benches, small tables, leather seated chairs plus a couple of poser tables. At the back of the bar is an oak topped servery which leads to a snug complete with a stunning varnished fireplace. A big bonus here is the beer garden at the rear to soak up the rays in the warmer months. . The beer line up was excellent and included four cask ales and thirteen keg choices. I decided on a pint of Staropramen, my pint really hit the spot and was average price for the area. There is no in-house food as yet. If you are feeling a bit peckish there is a branch of @changoempanadasuk close by. Simply scan the QR code from the menu in the pub, order and pay, then pick up and take back to the pub, simplez. . I visited around 7pm on a Friday evening. The majority of punters were plotted up in the beer garden enjoying the warm summer evening. There was a good mix of age groups both young and old. The atmosphere was upbeat and convivial, the friendly team really set a nice tone here. . With the London pub landscape decimated over the last twenty years, its great to see a phoenix rise from the flames. The @crownhighgate has a great set up ready for you to enjoy, if you’re in the area, show some love to a new London pub. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreAs a resident of Highgate we have eaten at all of the pubs that offer Sunday Roast - we ordered 4 roast chicken priced at £26 each plus 1 pork belly priced at £28 - we found that to be on the pricier side however our expectations were fairly high - oh dear the chicken portions were measly & the roast potatoes were probably the worst we have eaten , the pork belly was ok the crackling not the best - one massive let down was a hair 🤢 have quite a strong stomach so accepted a new plate & to be fair the pork belly was quite nice - the red cabbage a little vinegary but we were starving so ate it. The staff we found to be a little rude not at all attentive , almost like they couldn’t be bothered - witnessed the manager drop coffee grouts on the floor & just kicked it further under the bar - shocking especially as it wasn’t overly overly busy - on ordering our desert I requested a reduction (due to the hair) & this was accommodated - the apple crumble came served in a piping hot dish but was cold - microwave perhaps - definitely will not be recommending to others or visiting - Sun&Lion or The Angel for us ! I mean we don’t expect Claridges style food & not the most expensive roast but...
