Having visited quite a few times, I can strongly recommend Charro De Rio for both lunch and dinner.
The food is consistently good - in particular the chicken and apricot sausages and grilled pineapple. The sides (particularly the cauliflower, beef stew and green beans) are surprisingly good and replenished on request. There is also a modestly-priced unlimited fizzy water option, which is a good option to have.
There tends to be a flurry of meat-based activity, followed by a lull, so it's worth deciding your meat strategy in advance. I recommend holding out for the prime cuts, sausages and pineapple. As you are regularly asked if you want to have some of what's being offered, the conversation with dining companions can be quite stop/start, but there are now handy signs to show if you want to take a break from meat acquisition. You are expected to help with the conveyance of carved meat from the skewer to your plate / a communal plate, so it's worth brushing up on your tong skills.
The service is generally friendly in what is a fairly unforgiving environment - the risk of meat-juice spillage remains ever present for those doing the carving.
I found it slightly too hot this evening with the front doors open and air conditioning off, but on previous visits the temperature has been fine. The chairs are significantly more comfortable than the benches, so I would probably try to come back as a two rather than a 3+ group.
All in all, Charro de Rio is a great asset to the local area and I hope it...
Read moreMy husband and I have always come here at least once a fortnight and we will always continue to come back, because the quality of food, the customer service, the location and overall experience just cannot be matched elsewhere.
The cuts of meat are of premium quality and are perfectly seasoned. They serve the best Argentinian ribeye, sirloin and even wagyu! There is so much variety each and every time we come, we always find it refreshing. The sides they offer are of premium quality too, my favourite is the plantain.
The customer service is outstanding, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The owner/manager is always super smiley and you can tell that everyone there really enjoys what they are doing. We have come here regularly for at least 6 months now and we have always received service with a smile every single time. We even came here for our first meal as a married couple and we were absolutely spoiled, they really do care that you have a great time and a perfect dinner.
The restaurant itself is only a short walk from finchley Road, so is very easily accessible and has lots of cute cafes and shops scattered about.
We first came to Charro de Rio when we were dating, then engaged and now married. Thanks so much for helping us make some wonderful memories and we can't wait to make...
Read moreThe best buffet meat I have ever had. Great choice of meats (fish available on request if you ask in advance) and we found the staff were constantly coming around to top up our plates. Given the amount of food and the quality of the meat and sides, the price of the buffet was very fair!
We received the most hospitable, friendly service ever too. We had booked a table outside for dinner a few months ago (supposedly summertime). It had been raining so the staff relaid the table with new cutlery, crockery and napkins when we arrived, and gave us blankets as it was quite chilly. Then it started raining very heavily and we had no cover. There was no space to move inside but the staff managed to move a big umbrella to shield us, and tried as best they could to accommodate us in the conditions! It made for quite an entertaining visit.
We will be returning for sure. Thank you for the outstanding...
