We arrived to Chotto Matte London in a group of six. We was seated at a table suited for six but it did feel small and cramped. We all had £75 per head and was looking forward to our visit.
We scanned a barcode for the menu but it wasn’t very user friendly at all.
Here are the dishes I ordered and tried
Spicy Chicken Karaage - nice flavour, good kick and presented well. The coating was nice.
Arroz Chaufa - I didn’t go past the second try. We had this ordered 3 times around the table, not one person eat it. Felt grainy and didn’t go together
Chuleta de Cordero Ahumada - the lamb itself was cooked beautifully. I couldn’t get over the toppings of nuts etc, it was very strong. Perfectly cooked meat, but the rest was not up to my personal taste.
Pollo Picante - now if there is one thing this restaurant cooks wells, it’s the chicken. The chicken is delicious and this for me was the best dish of the evening. Put a smile on my face and topped everything I tried.
Yuca Frita - this was cassava wedges and was the first thing I tried and it was a lovely start. Tastes nice, soft on the inside and a lovely crust.
Chocolate ice cream - tasted like it came out of a tub and didn’t bother me. A nice refreshing end.
The atmosphere had a certain ambiance. The food is cooked insight and is brought out when it’s made. You order what you’d like and it arrives sporadically. One of the guys around the table has to wait until we had our 3rd or 4th dish for him to get his. The waiters seemed confused as to what dish was delivered. We had a halal eating member on our table but they twice got told “wait, I have your dish so not sure what you’ve been given” as similar looking dishes were mixed up. I won’t say how it ended. The staff were friendly and nice, always helpful too.
All in all, I see the quirky side, the idea for service and the design of the menu but it wasn’t for me, and the rest of the team felt the same way. Nice to have experienced this restaurant but I can’t see myself...

When a dear friend gifted me the Chef’s Omakase at Chotto Matte Soho, I expected something special.. but what I got was nothing short of spectacular.
This wasn't just a dinner; it was an event, a sensory journey, a birthday celebration that became a full-blown showstopper.
From the very first course, it was clear that this omakase experience stepped beyond the ordinary. With an array(I lost count!) of meticulously crafted dishes.. some not yet featured on the menu, it felt like an exclusive preview of what’s to come in the next chapter of Chotto’s culinary journey.
Every plate arrived with theatre and intention, a riot of colours, aromas and textures. The freshness of the ingredients was undeniable.. pristine seafood, succulent meats, and perfectly sweet langoustines that practically melted in the mouth.
Several dishes stole the spotlight: • Pork belly – melt in the mouth goodness! • The tuna ceviche was electric - zesty, silky, with a citrus punch (my fav.) • The sushi selection was masterful, showcasing refined technique and bold flavour pairings • And unexpectedly, the chicken (yes, chicken!) was a standout: juicy, charred in all the right places, layered with umami in a way I didn’t think possible.
What made this experience truly next level was the sense that it had been curated just for the table, following a meet and greet with the chef. This wasn’t your typical “food experience”.. it was theatrical, immersive, and turned every head in the room. All eyes were on our table, and rightly so.
The entire team, right from online reservations to the warm and attentive welcome at the door, to the seamless bar and table service, and of course the chef’s artful presence, delivered a truly star-level experience. Impeccable at every turn.
If you’re seeking a dining experience that’s bold, fresh, and unforgettable, Chotto Matte’s omakase is it.
p.s. I went for a La Chakana cocktail...
Read moreRemus was my Waiter for the night. He was very attentive to noticing my empty water glass, to knowing when I was ready to order. The starter came pretty quick. We ordered the veg sushi. The flavours paired well with the soy sauce and pickled ginger. The cook on table hibachi grill was well assembled and had pretty decor with Japanese writing around it. I was instructed how to cook the tuna. By following instructions the otoro tuna turned out perfectly and was seasoned well with the yuzu salt. The rice was well flavoured and was a good portion. The lychee Ceviche was flavoursome and had a kick to it which really made the flavours stand out. The Brocoli was tenderstem and was well seasoned. However only the stem had a crunch. The tostados were mushroom and were quite meaty in fact. Especially for a vegetarian dish. The sauce and seasoning was great and the pastry added some umph to the dish.
Dessert we enjoyed and the meringue was a nice touch to the mixed berries ice cream. The malted milk ice cream pairs well with the chocolate fondant especially with the sauce inside.
Cocktails bought were After 8 CBD and frozen yuzu Margarita. The taste on the after 8 was really sharp but didn't pair well with the chocolate. The frozen yuzu however was a great combo with the ice taking of the usual tart of the yuzu making the drink really refreshing which lead us to ordering more. We were gifted coffee patron and it was great woke and sobered me up for the journey home.
Christina also played a part in the great service I received from Chotto Matte.
This is definitely a place to try if you want to try Asian fusion or just have a great time. The...
