We recently attended the performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and overall, it was a memorable experience. The actors were truly phenomenal, bringing the story to life with their impressive performances. The show itself was executed smoothly, with only a few minor issues related to sound levels; in a few parts, the audio was either slightly too low or too loud. However, these were small glitches that affected only about 5% of the show.
One thing that stood out to us was the portrayal of Hermione. We noticed that she was played by a black actress, which is a different representation from the movies. While we're open to diverse interpretations, we felt that this version of Hermione didn’t quite capture the character as we expected from the source material. This could be more related to the writing or direction rather than the actress's performance, as the character seemed different from what fans might anticipate.
Another issue was the frequent disturbances caused by latecomers being allowed entry during the performance. This happened several times and interrupted the flow of the show, breaking our immersion.
Unfortunately, the seating experience left much to be desired, especially for such a long show. The seats were extremely small and uncomfortable, more so than what one might expect on a budget airline. The limited legroom was particularly challenging, as we found ourselves cramped with little space to move our legs comfortably. This resulted in discomfort and leg pain during the five-hour performance.
Moreover, the view from the balcony was less than ideal. The balcony is quite high up, and we often struggled to see the stage clearly due to obstructed views from the people in front of us. This was especially challenging when larger individuals were seated ahead. This setup made it difficult to fully enjoy the visual aspects of the production, which was disappointing considering the caliber of the performance.
While the play itself was captivating and thoroughly enjoyable, we feel that the theater's seating arrangements could be significantly improved to enhance the overall experience. We believe that such a fantastic production deserves a venue that allows every audience member to fully appreciate it in comfort.
Overall, we loved the talent and creativity of the show but would appreciate a more comfortable setting and smoother experience to enjoy future...
Read moreHarry Potter and the Cursed Child is AMAZING! I would highly recommend it to everyone, particularly Potter fans like myself. Stall seats K20 and K21 had good visibility (Rows G-K are the best but you do pay a premium) but we did have to sit forward towards the start of part 1 as the audio was very quiet and we struggled to hear all of the characters. I'd recommend paying a little more to get Stall seats near the middle aisle to have a clear view of the stage and good leg room. We watched both parts in one day which we thought would be intense but after part 1, we were super keen to see part 2. Whilst the show was impressive, a few things with regards to the theatre could be improved. Firstly, I was emailed before the show to say no drinks/snacks from outside were allowed in. This is incorrect as you can take in your own water and a couple of small snacks. I'm unsure if this is to boost sales or to stop the unnecessary crunching during the show, perhaps both! Secondly, in this email it very clearly stated latecomers would not be allowed in. Unfortunately, several individuals were late and were let in on multiple occasions. This was frustrating as we could see people moving around, other audience members had to get up to let them in which blocked bits of the stage and the flow of the performance. I appreciate there may have been extenuating circumstances but not for the number who came in mid-performance. Lastly, during the performances some audience members sat talking leading to a lot of shushing from other audience members. Some also sat using their phones but staff members came and dealt with this using flashing torches. Perhaps a bit more of a reminder on theatre etiquette is needed at the start of the show. A wonderful day out nonetheless and a...
