Do not stay here!! Threatened to kick us out and call police over entering family's room.
We had previously stayed at the Z Hotel Soho and had a pleasant experience, despite the tiny rooms, woeful wifi, hard beds etc, we had found the location brilliant. This stay was a completly negative experience. Firstly, they did not service our room, we had to ask for a toilet roll and some more water and was told by housekeeping they had been too busy servicing rooms for new guest arrivals and ours wouldn't be done. But the events of our second night and the night manager were the most appalling. (Friday night - 10th of Jan) We had travelled from Australia to London and relatives from Brighton had travelled up to stay at the same hotel to see us. We had arrived back after dinner and drinks minutes apart. And on arrival we were scrutinised (by a large, imposing reception man) that we were even paying customers and treated quite suspiciously - we had clearly used the keycard to gain entrance. He asked where we were staying and I said our two sets of room numbers to confirm. He said we could not have more than 2 people per room (fire hazard) but could go to the courtyard (outside) so we went up to their room to talk to them and let them know. We were in their room for less than a minute before he banged on the door and was calling out (he had followed us). He aggressively asked if my husband could understand English. He fully entered their room and my relative was quite frightened. He then said for us to get out, and after we said this aggression and outburst was ridiculous, he said pack your bags and get out of the hotel! He threatened to call the police (we recently read other poor reviews of people being yelled at and police threats for guests in the room, but it was honestly flabergasting in person) and he mentioned multiple times that we were kicked out and then that he would kick out both sets of couples, after the other couple protested. Im 37 years old and have never had anyone, in any establishment across the world, speak so aggressively, or be so unreasonable or condascending and I mentioned I would be writing this review. We were not loud, nor disrespectful on the way up to the rooms, Im a school teacher, my husband a social worker and we have travelled extensively and know how thin walls can be. One member eventually calmed him down but I did not get any sleep, feeling so anxious and angry after being threatened so apallingly for entering the room of paying family, he cited the fire hazard as the reason for this and I have since read all terms and conditions and FAQ and I might have missed it but could not see this policy and if present, his gross overreaction and threatening behaviour was NOT justified and means I would never ever ever stay in a Z Hotel again. If we had anywhere else to go, we would have listened to his threats, packed and left straight away. N.B we all went for a walk together to calm down and converse and he distinctively had a name tag on during our horrible interaction (none of us caught it) but when we returned he had taken off his badge and on my found out his name was Ricardo in the morning. Read moreI was in London celebrating my birthday and had requested prior to arriving that I’d really appreciate checking in half an hour before the scheduled check in time as I had a full busy itinerary for the day planned and I assumed half an hour before check in wouldn’t be too much of an ask. Upon arriving after travelling for 4 hours I politely asked the girl on the desk if the room was ready, she said no - I mentioned I’d requested a slightly earlier check in time so she walkie-talkied one of the women cleaning the rooms and asked if room 222 was ready yet, she said no and the girl behind the counter seemed smug to be informing me of that, for some reason? 🤔 I then queried that as a member I could perhaps receive a complimentary upgrade to stay in a different room if one of those was available instead, and all of a sudden room 222 was miraculously ready after all… the girl’s colleague was much more accommodating and helpful and actually wanted to get us booked in. We were grateful of this as we needed to leave our luggage in the room and freshen up before we went out for the day/evening. The room was very small and the bed very hard so not comfortable to sleep on at all. The pillows were soft which was good. I’ve stayed in a Z Hotel before so I knew about the total lack of privacy in the rooms with the glass partition to the bathroom and therefore can’t criticise that but it is still rather odd and awkward hearing/smelling your partner on the toilet 😷😂 there were a few stains on the hand towels but I just used them to create a dam to stop the shower water flooding the bedroom.||I hardly slept a wink as the guests staying in the room opposite us decided to talk loudly, slam doors and drag things along the hallway in the middle of the night a few times, and in the early morning (maybe 7am) the receptionist knocked on their door and it sounded as though she was asking them to leave, so not sure what went on there but I didn’t appreciate the early wake up call 🤦🏻♀️ we didn’t bother raising any of these issues with anyone at the time as I assumed the unhelpful girl on reception would probably take great pleasure in doing absolutely nothing about my complaint and I didn’t want to give her the satisfaction. We shan’t be staying in a Z Hotel again.||Pros:||Location for the theatre|Soft pillows |Air con||Cons:||Hard bed|Unhelpful staff|Tiny room|Stained towels|Loud guests not being told to be quiet at 2am|Hearing your partner...

Unfortunately for us we booked this hotel for one night after going to see a nearby theatre production. We checked into the hotel after the show which was around 10:30pm, after waiting for 10 mins to be attended to we were finally checked in and apparently upgraded to a 'Queen' room - you wouldn't have known it was an upgrade because the rooms are so small there isn't anything queen about them. The room didn't look the most cleanly but neither did the hotel in general on the walk up to our room. Due to the rooms being on one of the main roads in bustling Soho it was like being at a nightclub without evening being there, absolutely no way anyone can sleep with that amount of sound coming in - the window also didn't fully close!
Luckily (or unluckily) for us we didn't have to try to sleep with that racket going on because whilst in our room we hadn't even turned out the covers yet before noticing a bedbug crawling across the duvet. We were able to take photos and video evidence to present to the hotel staff. Immediately the front desk staff came into the room to take a look quite frantically. After having a very quick scan around the window, the duvet and the floor (but somehow not unveiling the mattress or uprooting the area too much, but wrapping the bug up in the duvet and placed on the floor) he told us it was a housefly and that if we waited around somewhere else for 20 minutes he could spray the room for us if we were uncomfortable. He saw in person what we saw, we firmly disagreed with him and again showed him the video evidence - that's when he apologized and offered us a full refund with help looking for somewhere else to stay for the night. At this point it was around 11:50pm! The staff member apologized over and over again, knowing it wasn't personally his fault we appreciated the help he offered us especially as he seemed to be the only staff member on shift, but it was very obvious he was aware of the presence of bedbugs within the hotel.
Luckily on his recommendation we found a room at a nearby hotel - Zedwell - in Piccadilly which offers capsule rooms at a lower price point!! Their rooms are much more up to scratch, cleaner, modern, bigger, bed was even bigger. Much happier staying at the Zedwell and at a fraction of the price we had paid for the Z hotel so was...
