Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want to document an counter I had today. I purchased a takeaway of a hot Mac&Cheese from this āfranchiseā Costa. After I paid and my meal was put in a bag, I asked the server for a fork- to which they responded they can only give a metal fork- which requires me to eat in. She said words to the effect of āwe donāt do plastic cutlery anymore, this is lawā. She repeated this statement multiple times- as though I am not aware of the law. I responded, I understand this- but as a Restaurant who serves takeaway hot food- you have responsibility to source disposable cardboard/wooden cutlery. She continued with the same statements of āthis is the lawā multiple times. I explained to her that I understand what the law is, but āhow will those who purchase hot food eat outside?ā. I reluctantly accepted the metal fork which required me to eat in, whilst giving it she said āso you shouldāve said you wanted a metal fork in the first placeā- attitude in effort to look cool in front of the other customers. As I gave her the fork back, I asked for her name as I wanted to provide feedback for her service to the management. She offered her name and I walked away. She yelled asking me to come back and said words to the effect of āI want to take your name also, because I donāt feel comfortable with the way you made me feel and even the other customer mentioned if I was okay after you spoke to me. I already told you why we donāt give plastic forks out, we have a rule that can ban customers from coming hereā. I said āwhy do you want to take my name? I spoke rationally and did not once say anything verbally abusiveā- this would be unacceptable. I asked her again why canāt a restaurant offer alternatives like cardboard/wooden forks- which I obtained from a different costa recently. She finally said ābecause we are a franchise, you can complain to the management if you want that to changeā. She did not offer an adequate and rational explanation as to why paying customers canāt eat with cutlery outside. I as a paying customer just want to know why canāt I have cardboard/wooden cutlery- I donāt know why the server just couldnāt be candid with me. I wouldnāt have purchased the meal had I known I couldnāt eat it outdoors in the first place. Also, the mention that I can be blacklisted from this restaurant for making her feel uncomfortable for asking a genuine question- this I consider a threat, and I will be escalating my complaint to head office. I have been supposedly blacklisted from a costa for asking for disposable cutlery. Even questioning is an...
