Daebak: A Korean Craze in Vauxhall
Daebak, meaning "jackpot" in Korean, certainly lives up to its name. This Vauxhall gem is a Korean culinary goldmine, offering a menu that's as exciting as it is authentic.
Getting There: Daebak is conveniently located in Vauxhall, with multiple transport options. The nearest tube station is Vauxhall, a short five-minute stroll away. Overground services also stop at Vauxhall, and there are numerous bus routes in the area. As for parking, it’s a bit of a gamble – street parking might be possible on quieter days, but don't rely on it.
Ambience: The restaurant's brick and wooden decor creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The air conditioning is a godsend on those sweltering London days, ensuring your dining experience is as comfortable as it is delicious.
Drinks: Daebak boasts an intriguing drinks menu that complements the food perfectly. Whether you're a beer aficionado, a soju enthusiast, or prefer something non-alcoholic, there's a beverage to tantalise your taste buds.
Food Glorious Food: Let's talk about the star of the show - the food. The Spinach Namul is a must-try. This savoury pancake is a delightful mix of textures and flavours. A dash of soy sauce, Chinese vinegar, and chilli oil elevates it to new heights.
The Kimchi Pancake is another standout. Fear not, kimchi lovers, this version is a gentler introduction to the fiery flavour. It's a crispy, savoury delight that benefits from a drizzle of chilli oil.
Now, the pièce de résistance: the Half & Half Korean Fried Chicken. The chicken is a masterpiece of crispy perfection, coated in a batter that is both light and crunchy. The Soy Garlic sauce is a harmonious blend of sweet and savoury, while the Pa Dak sauce is a surprising twist on the classic lemon chicken, offering a refreshing tanginess.
Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings (Pan Fried) These are from a well known frozen packet brand as I’m familiar with the taste. Akin to Bibigo somewhat
Final Thoughts: Daebak is a Korean culinary adventure that shouldn't be missed. With its delicious food, pleasant atmosphere, and convenient location, it's a jackpot of a find. As also very affordable too. Whether you're a seasoned Korean food connoisseur or a curious newcomer, this restaurant is sure to leave you wanting more.

Read moreI went here with a friend for a casual dinner and was really excited as I love good Korean food. I spent 6 weeks in Korea just after uni and embraced ALL the food so it’s lovely finding food which reminds me of that time.
It has a cafe feel, with simple wooden tables and a menu written above the kitchen area. Service was prompt and professional. Definitely don’t be fooled by the menu outside on the window which we were eying up as we queued (it was a Friday night they weren’t taking any more reservations. We arrived just after 7pm and had a 20 min wait for a table) - the actual menu is pretty extensive and has all your Korean staples included KFC (Korean Fried Chicken, Joachaim, Bibimbap etc).
However I was a little disappointed with the food when it did arrive. I ordered the tofu and egg bibimbap. The tofu was really well done (crispy cubes, all chewy and squishy on the inside) but instead of what I was expecting - a freshly cracked egg which then went all gooey when it was stirred in - there was a fried egg instead. It was still good but it meant the dish felt more dry than I expected. It went went will the hot sauce which was on the table.
We also had the tasting starter - crispy seaweed, bean sprouts, green veg and kimchi which was good.
On a whim (and because I’m greedy), I ordered the prawn tempura. An absolute favourite. The tempura was heavier than I expected (maybe I’ve just been to places where they do it differently? 🤷🏻♀️) but as a result it felt a little more greasy than I liked.
Overall, the food is tasty and I’d love to go back to try the KFC and the Japchae as they looked...
Read moreI always order delivery, this time I takeaway from the store and then when I got home I found it was very hard to bite , twice I ordered delivery as well but this time it was too much like eating stones.... Both the skin on the outside and the meat on the inside, even hurt my tongue bleeding.... But I was so hungry I only can do is to peel the outside and eat the inside, too lazy to go back to the store again to explain the situation fighting for my rights anyway Very sad experience, I even travelled a long way to store this time, too sadddddd Edited/ I order Deliveroo again today, now I edit my comment, I won’t order it again,I called the restaurant twice without responded. This time, the portion of fried chicken is very small, the most important thing is that before this, I specifically note that I last time I ran to the shop to take away home to eat when I found that the fried chicken over-fried can not be eaten, like eating stone, hope that this time to do it normally, to do a better job, I'll be forgiven. However, this time, after I left the notes, I was given a few pieces of very crumbly fried chicken, and it was half the normal portion! I'm really angry, and even this time even do not give me cutlery and tissues, fortunately I have my own home, otherwise let me use my hands directly grabbed to eat it? I even think the guys did this on purpose! I don't think I will ever...
