Deli- The Italians — Restaurant in London

I have frequented this restaurant since they opened some time ago. On my four or five previous visits, the food had been amazing and service has been personable and authentically Italian through and through.

This evening we visited with a party of 8 for a 50th birthday celebration and we went to drop balloons and a cake off before the booking (30 mins before) and the staff looked bewildered as to what we were doing and why. Have they never had a birthday celebration in their restaurant before??

We then came for our meal and the staff were obviously low on numbers or didn’t have the experience to manage multiple tables. Starters took forever to arrive, we then ordered mains finally after about an hour and then 20/30 minutes later the waiter asked if we wanted the chef to start cooking the pizzas…. Of course we did.

The pizzas had good bases but the toppings were off on each pizza. For example the Tricolore pizza (three colours) only had two and missed the green element. And others missed toppings - at this point we were just wanting to eat some food.

We then had to ask for cutlery, pizza wheel etc and when we asked for the cake we had to keep asking for cutlery, knife, lighter etc and the manager appeared visually annoyed by any sort of request.

It was noticeable that other guests kept having to walk up to the kitchen to request cutlery and condiments as at times there were no wait staff to be seen - one occasion the only waiter on sight sat sat on a table at the back on her phone minding her business.

Just so we could leave the establishment we paid and left as quick as we could. £30 service was daylight robbery and this experience has lost my custom and that of my friends and their...

We went to the Grand opening yesterday of the expansion next door their Deli. The Mini pizza selections were great. Clever concept of making small pizza’s - sort of like “pizza tapas style”. The pizzas we had we delicious, crispy crust, not too much sauce and tasty topping. (There must be a dozen options to choose from) Lovely meat & cheese boards choices plus a nice wine selection. Decided to try one of their sandwiches for lunch today and WOW. I went for a caprese sandwich with with fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil, olive oil. And it was delicious. The fresh crunchy and soft bread was delicious and the flavours were just bang on. Thank you. Would buy again tomorrow if I was not so far away (2 hour journey).
