I recently visited this coffee/pastry shop, and I must say it was one of the worst experiences I've had in getting pain au chocolates for a quick takeaway breakfast. Without asking me as the customer of my preference, the male staff just simply smeared the pastries with melted chocolate on top, placed them in a warmer, and instructed me to sit and wait for them. I told him that I simply wanted the pastries, but he dismissed me and claimed that he did what he did to melt the chocolate inside, added that it was the āproper way,ā and that the pain au chocolates he offered was ānot the grocery store level.ā I waited for roughly 10 minutes for this supposedly melted and ānot the grocery store levelā pastries. Afterwards, he just handed me the two rolled-up packs of three pieces of pastries which I paid for more than Ā£10. Immediately as I stepped out of this store, a pain au chocolate just fell from one of the packs that he gave me. It fell on my denim, painting it with chocolate, then onto the pavement. Thatās when I realized that one of the rolled-up packs he gave me was upside down. I have never received such a lowly level of service from any store before, giving a customer an upside down bag! I was so exasperated of my experience that I couldnāt find the energy to do a complain there and then. To add, the pastries did not look presentable at all with the smeared chocolate (check out the photo), and the chocolate inside has not melted. It was dry, tasteless, and far from the quality one would expect from a supposedly ānot the grocery store levelā shop. Everything was overpriced for such mediocre quality. Overall, I was thoroughly disappointed with both the food and the lack of professionalism. I wonāt be returning, and Iāll be sure to let others know to avoid wasting their time and money at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Di Stefano by chance one day when looking for an iced coffee. The cafe owner had told me that they had recently just opened again after a stint of being closed and were still doing work on the place. I next came across it a month or two later and lo and behold they had transformed the cafe into a great little place for coffee or a bite to eat.
They have a great deli counter with some absolutely fantastic sandwiches, which you can have toasted, that are by far the best you can find in the local area. The owner told me they made fermented focaccia that took 3 days to make, and inside are some of the freshest and tastiest ingredients. I have tried the vegetarian and the salami and both are wonderful. The coffee is also good. The owner is charming and kind and happy to have a chat. They have a few tables outside of the sun is on your side, otherwise there are many tables inside. I couldnāt recommend this lovely little cafe more, itās a must, and I canāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe place initially came across as lovely find
I have tried their red velvet croissant which tastes amazing which was for Ā£2 - the owners recommended āice cream shake ā which I thought to try on 15th September evening . The serving lady was closing her shop , still kindly offered me the drink . Thanks for that !
However as she was taking the drink - initially I thought it was a taster or may be for mixing with something else. Was shocked to see the original quantity, which was less than half of small plain transparent disposable water cup , hardly less than 200ml of shake with a sweet waffery buiscuit . It costed me Ā£3.30 which I personally feel couldnāt be justified !
I did point out about the less quantity and she said sorry thatās what it is .
Very disappointing as the shop did come across as a good coffee shop in the beginning with lot...
