The Horn of Plenty is a very old pub recently taken over by some fresh-off-the-train hipsters. Credit where credit is due, they've done the place up nicely. It actually has the semblance of a proper middle of nowhere pub, probably similar to the ones around where the owners grew up, in Devon or Oxfordshire or wherever. It's nice if you're into that sort of thing. What's not nice is their intrusion on and the fetishisation of the east end. Today on their menu was an item named after the Kray twins. Whilst I appreciate that there is a certain romantic element associated with historical (or even contemporary) criminals, I find it extremely inappropriate and in shockingly poor taste to do something like this, and all the more in this area. The Krays were not romantic, they are not to be celebrated, they were violent thugs who terrorised the east end at the expense of its inhabitants. They committed real and callous violence and inflicted real and lasting suffering on real people. But it's not real to these hipsters at the Horn of Plenty, it's just another part of their comfortable middle...

Traditional decor creates a welcoming and cosy atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The menu offers a delightful selection of classic pub fare, from hearty pies to fish and chips, all cooked to perfection. The drinks list is equally impressive, with a wide range of local ales, ciders, and spirits to choose from. Read moreI had booked a table for 9 people. The table only had 8 chairs. I told them during the booking process that we were going to eat. The ordering of the food took a very long time. It was a Sunday and they ran out of tea or tea cups (I didn't quite get it). But the worst part, the food took over an hour for some of us to arrive and we had to ask more than once for it. For others the food arrived in a normal amount of time which led to the fact that most of the group was done eating before the food of others arrived.
They also offer a vegetarian Roast version. It says 'cauliflower steak'. It was individual cauliflower pieces. And when I asked for gravy after receiving the food they informed me that they don't have vegetarian gravy. Kind of a letdown since they offer a vegetarian Roast version. The good itself was good though.
Very poor experience. I hope that was just an exception. They did offer the ones whose food arrived very late a free...
