EMBARGO 59 MIGHT BE THE MOST RACIST PLACE I HAVE COME ACROSS IN THE UK..TWO OF THE GUYS ON THE DOOR EVEN SAID TO US "JUST WARNING YOU GUYS THAT THIS IS A RACIST ESTABLISHMENT"...I AM KIND OF SCARRED FOR LIFE FROM MY EXPERIENCE TRYING TO GET INTO THIS CLUB. BTW I AM A YOUNG WORKING PROFESSIONAL LIVING IN CHELSEA.. SO I WOULD EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO GET INTO A LOCAL CLUB ON A WEEKEND EVENING AFTER EVEN RECEIVING A RESERVATION CONFIRMATION.
IF YOU ARE NOT WHITE... MAYBE MAKE SURE THAT MAJORITY OF YOUR GROUP IS WHITE..... I HAVENT TRIED THAT BUT I WOULD EXPECT THEY WOULD HAVE TO COME UP WITH A PRETTY GOOD REASON TO DENY YOU ENTRY.
IF YOU ARE WHITE... I WOULD SUGGEST YOU BOYCOTT THIS PLACE IF THIS ISSUE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU.
AS FOR ME I WOULD NOT BE GOING THERE AGAIN AND I HAVE BECOME A MEMBER AT ANOTHER CLUB AROUND THE CORNER TO PREVENT THE SORT OF EXPERIENCE I HAD AT EMBARGO59. WHAT I EXPERIENCED THERE IS COMPARABLE TO LIFE IN PARTS OF THE U.S BEFORE THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT AND THIS IS 2013 WHEN THINGS ARE SUPOSSED TO HAVE CHANGED. WELL IT IS FAR FROM THE CASE WITH THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THIS CLUB.
THE CLUB IS OWNED BY ECLECTIC BARS. THEY OWN SOME VERY GOOD CLUBS AROUND THE COUNTRY. THEIR AUDIENCE FOR EMBARGO59 AS DESCRIBED ON THEIR WEBSITE IS BELOW Audience: Affluent, Sophisticated, Discerning
SO FROM THEIR POINT OF VIEW, IF YOU ARE NOT WHITE THEN YOU ARE NOT ANY OF THE ABOVE.
EMBARGO59 IS RACIST AND I DONT WANT TO GO INTO THAT MUCH DETAIL ON HERE BUT IT IS A LITTLE BIT UNFAIR IF YOU CANNOT GET INTO A CLUB BECAUSE OF THE COLOUR OF YOUR SKIN.
I DISCUSSED THIS WITH A FEW COLLEAGUES THE OTHER DAY AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT CLUBS LIKE THESE ARE BRANDS, AND TO KEEP ATTRACTING THE TYPE OF PEOPLE THEY TARGET (Affluent, Sophisticated, Discerning), THEY WOULD NEED TO MAKE THE VENUE SUITABLE, HENCE AS FEW NON-WHITES IF POSSIBLE OR NON AT ALL.
I HAD NO INTENTION OF WRITING A REVIEW BUT IT HAS BEEN BUGGING ME OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS SINCE THIS HAPPENED. I KNOW THE CLUB MARKETING PEOPLE WOULD PROBABLY COME BACK WITH SOME SORT OF PATRONISING MESSAGE BUT THIS WILL LIVE WITH ME AND MY FRIENDS FOREVER. I CANT CHANGE YOUR BELIEFS, I WAS BORN THE WAY I AM AND THIS IS NOT MY BATTLE TO FIGHT.
THANK YOU FOR...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHaving been to most of Londons west end clubs over the years which include bottle service I was quite surprised about the Embargo Republica because I was not aware of this place at all.
Having said that if you will be asked to spend 500 Pounds as a minimum price which is fair comparable to Mayfair clubs which come at 1000 Pounds and Reign at 1500-2000 Pounds you should be aware of a couple of things.
We were two guys and got almost manipulated into the place since apparently it was only possible to get in with a booking. However once we agreed and filled the last of their table bookings they let the whole queue behind us in not debating anymore about restrictions on volume or exclusivity which was also mirrored by the size of the crowd inside.
Inside the club partially questionable audience since our table was booked by the two of us while the table next to us was booked by roughly 20 people for a similar pricing while not being the regular crowd for this area who were misbehaving, throwing up onto our area, overstepping and in the end getting into a fight with each other such that security had to intervene. Bottle prices are fair compared to the recent Mayfair prices which ballooned over the recent years but donāt expect a fireworks show or a person who will manage your table and take care of it for the whole night.
Music overall is quite fun, if you are more into deeper house beats what I assume this place is not really marketing itself as I would recommend something else however if you like Latin, a couple of sing alongs mixed with pop EDM beats its the right place for you. Soundsystem is overall okay.
The quality of girls is given the male audience definitely at a premium and worth a visit, donāt expect hard control on clothing or shoes as we have seen all sort of questionable fashion decisions inside of this place.
Overall I would not recommend this place with a table booking, you will get places around this area with much better service, better door and honest communication which doesnāt let you stuck with the feeling of being taken advantage of. However if you they let you in once they sold out the tables it can be a fun place to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to go to Embargo for a night out in my 20's. I have just turned 50 and decided that I wanted a private party, dancing the night away with my friends who were flying in from all over the world. We met with Rania Milat who is the Sales and Marketing Manager and she agreed to letting us take the whole place over for a night in January 2025. We worked together on the theme and my vision for the night and Rania went ahead and sourced absolutely everything and came up with plenty of other suggestions she thought I might like (spoiler - I loved them all!). I cannot describe how perfectly everything ran, how great of a collaborator she is, especially given that I am not based in the UK so it was all done via WhatsApp. The whole crew who were there on the night from the DJ to the dancers to the musicians to the caterers to the bar tenders to the waiters were on point and all in line with the joyful vibe we were going for. But all the credit really goes to Rania for anticipating absolutely every need - always there to change out my drink, give me a tour of all the little details, collect and store gifts which she then brought to my hotel along with the cake and other mementos from the night. But possibly my favourite "touch" was when my feet could no longer handle my stilettos, she brought me a small carpet to dance on that also fit the theme of the party. I could not imagine this party being any better in any way and the feedback we have received from all of our guests were words like "best party ever" and "what a great venue". Our guest list (160 people) ranged from age 18 to 82 and everything in between, with the majority being 40's / 50's. Most people did not sit down all night (we were there for 8 hours) and were dancing and having the time of our lives. Rania and the whole team put in so much effort on our behalf and I could not be more grateful to them or thankful that we made the decision to go with Embargo Republica as the venue...
