Top quality seafood restaurant with friendly and professional service. All dishes we asked about were explained in great details with patience.
For starters, I was very impressed with the complementary appetizer - I've never had a free starter of this quality (at a non-Michelin star restaurant). The fish cakes - this could have easily been a dish on the menu that I'd order. Though I'm not a fan of pickles, there's a nice balance between the ingredients which I gladly ate them all! Oh and it tastes even better with their homemade tartare sauce.
The starters were phenomenal! Both the seared scallops and grilled squid were so soft and tender - flavours were on point. Highly recommended!
Mains came in generous portions and the fish were again, cooked extremely well. I was pleased with my choice - the skate wing was so silky, it literally melted in my mouth. The seasoning was just right and it tasted great with the tartare sauce, too!
At this point we were quite stuffed but after hearing the dessert options: sticky toffee pudding served with ice cream, rice pudding, creme brulée, lemon tart, pear and blueberry crumble served with warm custard...the list went on...we just had to try one! Even more appealing was the fact that all desserts were homemade! We found out that they also own the bakery next door which supply all the desserts freshly made everyday!
We were very satisfied with our choice, the custard was creamy and rich in vanilla flavour. A lovely dessert that I couldn't have enough of. It tasted fresh and genuinely homemade which was a great finish of the outstanding meal.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have a 10/10 seafood experience. None of the dishes would disappoint including the freebies! I'll be...
Read moreThis unassuming seafood restaurant tucked away in an estate in the East End of London never fails to deliver. Although its name leaves something to be desired, this restaurant brings together beautiful fresh seafood, charming, and exact service and leaves you feeling as though you've just been to an old friends for dinner and as satisfied as a full-body massage on a beach in southern Mexico.
I had the cod and chips, served with a large plate of mussels. The mussels, plump and juicy, were cooked in a delicious tomato sauce, which I mopped up with the leftover chips accompanying my crispy battered cod. The fish itself was perfectly moist and flakey, the chips as you would expect from a top draw chippy.
After feeling like I'd just conquered the world, mopping up the last of my accomplices dinners in the remains of my garlicky-tomato-mussely sauce, I requested the dessert menu.
We ordered three of the restaurants' sweet offerings to share: amaretto crème brûlée, chocolate ganache cake, and sticky toffee pudding. The cake and pudding were delectable and filled that rich, sugary void left by the savoury courses. Unfortunately, the crème brûlée was not set properly and did not taste of almond.
The waiting staff at Fish Central are all well schooled in proper table service. They are excellent at anticipating your needs, providing a leisurely but precise dinner service - something you rarely experience outside top restaurants.
Fish Central is a staple for East Londoners looking for well-priced, high-quality seafood. Its date-night, a family reunion, a friends birthday, or dinner for one. They even have a takeaway next door!
So next time you're wondering where to go for dinner at 8 pm on a Saturday night, this is THE...
Read moreI've never had fish and chips. I know. This is my first trip to London. I was most excited for the legendary dish. I googled closest fish and chips near me and this one came up. I didn't look for quality, star rating, or anything complicated. Just "near me."
I walked about 10 minutes. I rounded the corner and saw half the restaurant was full of folks dressed very well. In response, I instantly became bashful. I was about to walk home hungry. Thank goodness I spotted the takeaway option next door. All the staff were incredibly nice. The speed was impressive! I waited less than 5 minutes. The man who helped check me out was shocked it would be my first time trying fish and chips. He was honored I chose their restaurant. Very heartwarming.
The suspense was more than worth it. I walked home. Everyone could smell my bag as I walked by. One person asked if he could have some, to which I declined politely while chuckling. The heat came down just right. The fish was still hot enough to have to blow on it first. The "chips" were still crispy. Never in America! Unbelievable.
I can't recommend this place enough. Hospitality, quality, speed, affordability, convenience, tourist-friendly... Perfection.
Understandably, I have nothing to compare them to. I'm pretty confident no one will live up to...
