I waited about 10 minutes before somebody even came to take a drink order. The starter, a very poor quality salad, was served 10 minutes later. I attempted to complain about the undeserving of a glass of wine, however I was told that 175ml was the restaurant's version of large (this is illegal). The waitress was quite blunt and argumentative over this. After waiting a further 15 mins for someone to realise I was finished with the starter I received 2 small fragments of fish that did not even match what might be a whole serving cut in half, just 2 small 4cm offcuts of haddock. After waiting a long time to send it back another 15 minutes elapsed before a 'replacement' was served (about 30 mins after starter) however I was presented with something completely different to that ordered, however with seemingly the original limp bits of veg and microwave lentils. The fish was obviously hake, however it appears the chef decided customers are too stupid to know the difference and was happy to just serve anything - this again is illegal and risks allergy to some, so quite dangerous. Plain hake is quite bland and not a substitute, particularly when it has been quite obviously aggressively defrosted and rapidly fried to the point it is crumbling apart. To actually serve this along with the original reheated veg demonstrates this chefs lack of interest in quality or reputation. Despite sending a main course back, this was the last seen of any waiting staff that evening - nobody even coming to check a sent back meal was ok or even ask if anything else...
Read moreI just left the Garden Resturant, and I’m extremely disappointed. As someone with coeliac disease, I chose this restaurant because they claim to cater to allergies. However, my experience proved otherwise.
There was almost nothing on the menu I could eat, and the staff seemed unsure about what was safe for me. After waiting 10 minutes for the manager, he went to check with the kitchen, which took another 10 minutes. Finally, I was told I could have either a prawn Caesar salad or gammon and eggs. I opted for the salad, which cost an outrageous £17.50.
After waiting 30 minutes, my salad finally arrived – and it was shocking. It consisted of nothing more than a bowl of chopped lettuce with a few prawns and a basic sauce. For that price, I would expect far better quality and presentation.
While the staff were friendly, the overall service and lack of allergy-friendly options were unacceptable. I won’t be coming back, and I strongly suggest the restaurant makes significant changes to their menu and training if they truly want to cater to guests...
Read moreAte my first Christmas lunch here and I must say it was mouth wateringly, good. The portions were good and the food was at a great temperature.
The ambiance was bubbling and joyful. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. We certainly did.
What made us enjoy our visit even more was the way we were treated by the staff. They made us feel like we were ‘part of the family’. Also, although, they were really busy with the restaurant full to the brim, their attention was always on the customer without you having to raise your hand or call out.
There was a good selection of starters, main courses and dessert at an absolutely amazing price. An affordable price for all.
We were served well by all staff but would like to say an extra special thanks toJoshua with his amazing Christmas Jumper, Andreas and Elena who served us beautifully and a real BIG UP to the chef in the kitchen as you never get to see them. Thank you guys.
Merry Christmas and Happy New...
