George's Fish & Souvlaki Bar — Restaurant in London

Today I went to @georgesfishbar In #southwoodford which isn’t just your usual fish and chip bar, they also serve the yummiest Greek Cypriot food too 😋 George’s was established in 2006 & has since won so many different awards for their food- which you can view on their website. On arrival I was greeted by the owner himself George who made me feel so welcome. The shop was very busy with queues out of the door but After trying their food I could sure see why ! Tonight I had their chicken Gyros, Chips, Halloumi, Greek Salad, Cod, & my parents had a chicken souvlakia each. All of the food was just so delicious !! The gyros was the best I’ve ever had. The meat was ever so fresh and tender and the actual gyros in pitta was bursting with so much flavour. The chips were the best I’ve ever had too and my parents also agreed. They had a gorgeous sweet taste to them and were cooked to pure perfection and trust me it’s definitely possible to mess chips up. The chips were also lovely & thick just how I love them to be. The chicken souvlakia was also gorgeous the chicken was very tender & there was plenty of it as was there plenty of salad. The fish was also delicious extremely meaty and more fish than batter which is what I love as usually most fish bars tend to give you mainly batter and hardly any fish!! All of @georgesfishbar food is 10/10 from me and extremely high quality as well as huge portions. You can definitely see how much love and effort goes into their food & that all of the ingredients used are of the highest quality. The fish bar itself is also spotlessly clean and covid safe. I definitely recommend everyone to try @georgesfishbar whether it’s for just fish and chips or Greek Cypriot food or both. You won’t be disappointed ! @georgesfishbar is currently undergoing Renovation but will be open fully very soon when restaurants are allowed to reopen for seating inside. I ordered a takeaway from George’s and was absolutely blown away! From start to finish, I had a few friends over so I decided to order 2 Pork sheftalia, 2 chicken souvla and a few dips. Ordering was quick and my food arrived in good time. It was freshly cooked and still very warm once I dished it up at home. The quality of the food exceeded my expectations. The chicken souvla were tender, juicy, and packed with authentic Greek flavors. The tzatziki sauce was fresh and creamy, the sheftalia was just how I was served it in Cyprus (delicious) and the pita bread was soft and warm.

Everything was clearly made with care and attention to detail. George and the staff took the time to talk to us. There was a buzzy feel about the place. The portions were generous, and the pricing was more than fair for the amount and quality of food I received. I spotted a customer ordering a chicken gyros chips, greek salad and dips. They looked scrumptious and will definitely be ordering them next time

I have to let everyone know that I love this place. As if you haven’t been there and you are local, I urge you to visit either for takeaway or eating in. Yes, it may be small with not too much seating in the back – but who wants to sit in a draft restaurant listening to your own munching? The best restaurants in my opinion are full of vibrancy and life – George definitely represents that. There’s a reason it’s won awards. It’s due to the fresh fish, which is battered in front of you. The lovely portions of chips, the friendly service and comfortable surroundings. It’s not meant to be a huge monopoly style restaurant like Pizza Express. Small is best. Having spoken to George recently about another favourite restaurant of mine in Enfield that serves fish and chips as well as scallops, oysters and alike, he revealed to me that they are actually planning to expand the restaurant and the kitchen so that they can cater for more and offer more on their menu. As a local to this restaurant, I feel very spoilt each time I go there. I haven’t mentioned the souvlaki for a reason – that is – because you will have to go there to sample its wondrous taste...
