A few days ago, I visited Gulmi Restaurant with my friends, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The service stood out; every staff member was attentive, checking in with us regularly to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. That level of care really made us feel welcome. The ambience was beautiful and deeply nostalgic. The Nepali-style interiors genuinely tugged at my heartstrings, reminding me of home. It was emotional in the best way. The staff were polite and well-trained, which added to the positive atmosphere. However, I did notice a lady with glasses, possibly the owner or manager, who was friendly and easy to talk to. While her demeanor was fine, I felt her attire didn’t quite reflect the professionalism expected from someone in that role. Of course, personal style is subjective, but in my view, it didn’t match the overall image of the restaurant. As for the food: Jhol momo was absolutely delicious — rich, flavorful, and comforting. Sekwa was also very good. The marinated spices were spot-on, and the texture was just as I expected; slightly firm, which is authentic. Biryani, however, was disappointing. It lacked the depth and balance of spices, tasted more like plain rice with gravy, and was missing salt. It didn’t resemble biryani in flavor but presentation was point on. Despite that, we left happy. My friends enjoyed the evening, and I appreciated the effort the team put into making our visit special. There are definitely areas for improvement, but thank you for the warm hospitality. I’ll be...
Read moreVisit Gulmi and you're likely to have a great time, especially if you're dining. If you're just in for a drink, it's important to insist on a seat in the main area, where all the atmosphere is, otherwise you will be directed towards the seats at the entrance (where the baby buggies are parked!), or in the wood-pannelled side room (which rarely has any vibes). In the main area, or the upper mezzanine, you'll be able to soak in the fun atmosphere that the space affords. If you were a fan of The Equitable, expect something similar but to a more subtle degree.
The food is a cut above most other places in the area and it's worth exploring the Nepalese menu as well as the regular one. Our order included sekuwa chicken, paneer chili, dal makhani, three greens, pratha and garlic naan. The star combo was the daal and breads (made fresh to order) and there is very little that can match that. The fresh bread is a real treat and certainly the first thing I'd order on my next visit.
The host, Rada, and waiter Pramila were friendly, courteous and attentive. The bill was also very generous and affordable. Oh and...
Read moreAs a Nepalese person living in Woolwich for 10+ years, I have tried a lot of Nepalese restaurants around the area. When I saw that there was a new restaurant that opened up literally in the heart of woolwich, I had to check it out.
I went with my mum and brother and it had a lasting impression on us especially my mum. The atmosphere felt like I was in a expensive restaurant/bar and the Nepalese slow music in the background felt like I was back in nepal. And most importantly the FOOD was top tier and reasonably priced for the quality.
There are 2 sections to choose from In the menu. Indian food and Nepalese food. I decided to look at the Nepalese section because I wanted to see how the taste would compare. And with confidence I would recommend any of my friends and family to this restaurant because it showcases the Nepalese food really well. I will definitely go back to this restaurant because the Momo is the standout for me personally. I would also recommend trying the chicken...
