I booked Haz for a private dining experience to celebrate a surprise birthday party with 14 guests, and I can honestly say it was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. The only positive thing I can say is that the private room itself looked nice – everything else was a let-down.
Service & Timing: • Despite being their only booking of the evening, it took over an hour for food to arrive. We ordered around 9:15pm, and dishes didn’t appear until 10:30pm. Throughout that time, every time I asked the waiter, I was simply told “five minutes,” which left me embarrassed in front of hungry guests. • Because of the delay, our whole schedule for the evening was thrown off. We had less time to cut the cake and guests who had planned to order more drinks couldn’t, as the restaurant was already closing.
Food Quality: • Two guests ordered medium-rare steak but were served rare – practically raw. They ate it only because they were starving, but it was unsafe and deeply concerning. • Another guest asked for medium-well and was first served a steak that was completely overcooked and chewy, then sent it back only to be given one that was undercooked. • Other dishes were mediocre at best, nothing memorable – certainly not worth the £70 per head bill.
Atmosphere: • Even though we had booked private dining, the curtain to our room was constantly left open. The waiter hovered at the door almost the entire evening, which was intrusive and made us feel like we were being watched rather than left to enjoy ourselves.
Management & Accountability: • The menu clearly stated the service charge was optional, yet it was made mandatory when it came time to pay. • When we raised complaints about the delay and food quality, the manager (Canan, grey-haired, about 5’9) was dismissive and blamed us for ordering late, even though the room was ours until 11:30pm and the issue was the kitchen taking over an hour to serve. • When I directly asked if he saw anything wrong with serving his only customers food an hour late, he looked me straight in the eye and said, “No.” No apology, no attempt to make things right, no accountability whatsoever.
Overall: What was meant to be a celebratory evening turned into a frustrating, embarrassing, and overpriced experience. The only redeeming thing was the pornstar martini – which I could have had anywhere else.
Distasteful food, unprofessional service, and shockingly poor management attitude. I would not recommend Haz to anyone looking for a smooth or enjoyable...

Read moreHaz Finsbury Square was the venue for a surprise dinner party. We were a group of about 20+ including children and we were hosted in a private room at the back of the restaurant. The tables were correctly laid out and the decor was very simple and stylish. The whole restaurant was beautifully decorated, it looked very clean and the ambience was good although it was very quiet that evening. The staff were friendly, well presented and attentive. Because this was a advance group booking, orders for the main course were taken in advance and double checked on that evening after the starters were served. We had the Party Menu which consisted of 3 courses. Amongst the starters were Falafel, Borek and Calamari with condiments like Tabule and Humus. I enjoyed most of the starters, and they also served small pieces of bread. I think the quantity was about right, enough to satisfy my hunger yet leaving enough room for the main. It took a while for the mains to be served which I assume is due to waiting for everyone's meals to be ready. I had the Kuzu Shish which was absolutely delicious. It's important to note that accompaniments such as fries, rice or bulga wheat are not part of the dish and need to be ordered. I went halves with a friend on a bowl of bular wheat. I can understand why such things are not part of the dish considering the amount of meat (if your order the Mixed Grill or something like that). For me, the bulga was a nice addition and left me very satisfied. The dessert was Baklava served with a small slice of poached pear and ice-cream. Some on my table said they found the ice-cream a bit grainy but I didn't notice it. I've to many group dinners in my time and I often dread the shambles that tends to ensue trying to work out who ordered what. At HAZ, they have a system of charging individuals for extras such as drinks as you go along, which seemed to work really well for my table. It was little lengthy, but by far the best managed group payment processing I've experienced so well done. I would definitely recommend...
