I recently visited in a group of four on a Saturday night. Upon arrival there were no other customers. Two of us each ordered a murg bhuna with two sides of rice. The waitress didn't read our order back to us to confirm the items ordered. I received only rice and not the main dish. When bringing the food, the server asked if everything was alright and disappeared before we could respond! I spoke to the waitress and questioned where my main was, only to be told I hadn't ordered one! The waitress returned to say that I had ordered a different dish (that I also hadn't been brought). I watched the rest of my group eat their food while waiting for mine to now be cooked. They brought a hot rice with the dish but no apology, and I paid full price. The dish itself wasn't amazing and didn't taste spiced as stated in menu. Another in my group asked for an alcoholic drink but was brought non-alcoholic and told that was what he ordered, although they did replace it. At the start of the order they stated they would be able to provide separate bills but all were just put together when paying. I told the waiter taking payment that I wasn't happy with the experience and he seemed to smirk! It's worth noting that you pay a 12.5% service charge on the bill whether you're pleased with the service or not. I've had better and cheaper Indian food elsewhere and with good service. I honestly would not recommend this restaurant. The staff have a bad attitude giving the customer the impression you are in the wrong if there is a problem. Having worked in hospitality in the past, this is not...
Read moreThis place was delicious! Simply the best Indian food I’ve had in a long time, and the staff was super friendly.
The atmosphere and ambience is the perfect mix of quite and inviting where each table feels as it’s its own island. Beautifully decorated and dimly lit, the restaurant vibes transport you away from the bustle that surrounds.
The staff helped us to tailor our taste with the menu and ensured throughout the meal that everything was to our liking. They even helped us pick a very delicious dish for our son who is a very picky eater. He actually ate it (mind blown)!
The portion sizes are huge! Hopefully, you wear your stretchy pants. We all ordered our own food but eventually shared and still had some left over. The naan is very fresh and very delicious. They have a hot sauce that’s not too hot but flavorful. The butters chicken and chicken biryani are incredible. I can’t say enough about the food. Also, they have a full list of wines and beers but I did not see a dessert list. For my family of four with more food than we could finish, we paid 85 quid. FYI, the tip was included. If you’re from out of town, the tax is built in. If you see an extra charge, that’s the tip.
Overall, this is a great place! Beware though, there is a chance of overeating. I...
Read moreA little food story — my first time at Holy Cow!
I had just arrived from Paris to London and was looking for something comforting to eat. I love Indian food, so I searched for a spot nearby. Bingo — Holy Cow! was only 5 minutes from home. Perfect! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. I had been a little disappointed so far with restaurants in London, and as a French person, I admit I can be picky with food.
I decided to go for a safe choice: butter chicken. A very kind lady welcomed me, the place was calm and cozy, and the prices were really affordable (especially compared to what I’d seen in London). While waiting, they brought me some Indian-style crisps with three sauces — mint, mango, and onion-tomato. The mango sauce exploded with flavor in my mouth, and at that moment, my excitement began to grow.
About 20 minutes later, a wonderful plate was placed in front of me. The aroma alone made me smile. I tore a piece of garlic naan, dipped it in the sauce, and… wow. Amazing. I wanted to cry, the flavors and spices were so rich and perfectly balanced. I even paused the YouTube video I was watching, just to focus and fully appreciate what I was experiencing.
It was in that moment I realized: this is actually my new favorite...
