Where do I start? The accessible room on the ground floor is where we stayed. Room 30. First, the directions to leave in the event of a fire would take us to the one exit on the floor with stairs. Not to the level front entrance where I could leave on my own, to the stairs where I would have to wait for someone to assist me to leave the building. This is ridiculous - if you have a level exit, direct the accessible room to use that exit.
Next, no bar inside the bathroom door. It looks like it had rusted and broken off. This means a wheelchair user cannot close the door when inside. There wasn't even a handle for an abled person to use. The lock also shows red outside when unlocked and red/green outside when locked, which is backwards.
Inside the bathroom there are no hooks for towels or clothes. Thr grab rails do not count as towel racks, I need them freely available at all times for their intended purpose, to help me to transfer and support myself.
The shower chair is sturdy but it is also completely smooth - I strongly suggest the manager tries using it properly to shower to see exactly how dangerously slippery it is to try and wash oneself. I nearly slipped off multiple times in one shower because it's so slippery. I twisted my shoulder and back muscles trying to prevent myself falling onto the floor.
The bathroom bin, like most accessible hotels, is tiny and will be vastly unhelpful for anyone who needs larger sanitary or disability related disposable items. In fairness, I asked ahead of time and staff left extra large bin bags in there for me to use, but that's barely reaching the minimum of needs there.
The small gripe is that the hand soap smells vile, I have never encountered a soap that made me feel less clean after using it and it may be personal taste but honestly unfragranced hand soap would be far better for those with accessibility needs to cover things like scent sensitivity.
On Sunday, I would not have been able to leave my room at all without my husband there - the laundry carts had been left directly opposite our door and abandoned (no staff in sight) so my husband had to move them both so I could even leave the room in my wheelchair.
There is only one bedside shelf. If you have a partner or companion sharing the double bed, they won't have a shelf or plug socket on their side of the bed.
We arrived Thursday evening and left Monday morning. In that time, our room was never cleaned. The bins were not taken, towels not replaced, it was clearly never even opened to check. So we had to have our waste in the room the entire time.
I did not feel comfortable complaining at the time because we had no choice on where else to stay and it was clear this room would not be made right because the problems are fundamental and basic. I should not have to tell you all of these things, but this room is not safe for a disabled person to stay in.
The amount it cost to have to deal with all of this is frankly shocking, it should not be that difficult to meet the bare minimum and yet here we are.
I can send you photos of everything, including suggestions of where to put hooks for towels to for abled and disabled guests to be able...
Read moreMy friend and I were not satisfied with our experience at this hotel. We were shocked to learn that the hotel operates on a “first come, first served” policy, which was never communicated to us in advance. Due to a delayed flight, we informed the hotel that we would be checking in late, after midnight, and the staff assured us that it would not be a problem. However, upon arrival, we were told that our room had been given to someone else. This was unacceptable, especially since we had notified them ahead of time and it's nearly 6am we were extremely knackered. The hotel then offered to relocate us to another property – Point A Hotel in Westminster – and as compensation, promised complimentary breakfast and a late check-out.We were told that the stay at this alternative hotel would be for one or two nights. A driver was assigned to take us there, but upon arrival, we discovered that breakfast was not included at this location as promised cause point A Wesminster doesn't provide it at all . The room we were given was tiny, plus along a busy main road, and had poor insulation – the window could not be fully closed and was not double-glazed. As a result, we were disturbed by traffic noise and sirens throughout the day and night. Moreover the room with “”city view” over London eye was coverd by scaffold outside our window, and we can even hear joiners workers walking and chatting outside on the scaffold. But we had to admit that this alternative hotel is situated at a much better location close to Westminster.Although the staff at the Westminster branch were friendly and tried to make us feel welcome by offering us four cups of coffee in total during our stay, it did not compensate for the inconvenience and discomfort we experienced. Moreover, we were never relocated back to the original hotel...
Read moreI was genuinely surprised at how smart and high end this hotel felt despite the low price. Your room offers a massive, comfortable bed, mood lighting, 6+ clothes hangers as well as 4 decently sized shelves, a huge flat screen tv, modern decor throughout. Spacious bathroom with large shower (one downside is that the water pressure wasnt very strong), huge white towels, nice toiletries. The free internet was extremely impressive, so fast and easy to use our entire stay, which is rare for budget hotels. We also had good air conditioning that acted well as white noise throughout the night. The lobby offers sweets, crisps, chocolates, tea and coffee. The location is only 30 minutes from waterloo (half walking half tube) and you have the option to get the DLR as well. Very high end feel to the surrounding area in general (Canary Wharf). Lots of very smart resturants and cafes, free ping pong, basket ball, boating.. you can see the wharf itself is very well taken care of with cleaners and community officers as well as police walking around throughout the day and night. We felt very safe here. Unfortunately there were a couple of cons :( the hotel walls are very thin and we could hear every conversation, tv, music, and footsteps of the other occupants both in their rooms and in the hallways. The three nights we stayed, we couldnt sleep more than 2/3 hours without hearing others arriving back to their rooms, or talking loudly into the night (3-4am). I would strongly suggest you bring headphones or ear plugs because of this, especially if you are a light sleeper. Also, the lobby didn't offer fresh fruit, only junk food snacks, but that's not a deal breaker. Overall, we were happy with our stay and would certainly...
