A friend and I decided to visit the Soho branch of Honest Burger for lunch, as we’d heard good things and wanted a decent burger and fries that wasn’t a rip off (five guys, etc). We both ordered the “Tribute” burger, which each came with a portion of their trademark rosemary salted fries, and also ordered a side of onion rings to share. First off, the burger was absolutely delicious! You can tell the meat is of high quality and all the salad ingredients were fresh, as well as plenty of sauce. The chips however I wasn’t a fan of, but this is mostly personal taste. The rosemary is a very overpowering taste, so tends to overshadow the potato completely, and although I didn’t like the taste, even if I did I would have been a bit disappointed with the portion size. Not quite enough! However, besides the rosemary the chips were cooked perfectly- proper skin-on American style fries and nice and crispy. The onion rings were plentiful, really crunchy and tasty but had the odd addition of what tasted like fennel in the batter. I understand this is their personal touch, but for me it didn’t work and overshadowed the onion taste one wishes for in an onion ring. Overall though, the meal wasn’t bad and the prices are ok- for two burgers with fries, 2 cokes and a big bowl of onion rings set us back just under 30 quid which is very reasonable for London. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant is a very pleasant place to eat- however the toilets were a bit flooded as the taps leak and badly need replumbing. Also, one thing that isn’t a huge deal but made me laugh- I managed to wear some of my burger as it’s very saucy, so asked a waiter if he could bring me a damp cloth to wipe my shirt, and was told they didn’t have one and could only provide a dry napkin. How the heck do they clean the tables then!? If you want an interesting spin on burger and fries, like the taste of fennel and rosemary and by all means go here and you’ll not be disappointed! If you want a more classic approach and don’t mind being ripped off, maybe stick to something like Byron, Five Guys or Shake Shack.

Edit answering to the owner: I’ve been travelling to London 3 times per year lately. Two days ago i had lunch in a British Pub (Anchors) with 3 friends. We did not have to pay any “Service charge”. Neither we had to do it the day before in Vappiano or Nando’s. And yes, I am usually informed about the things you have mentioned and the common practices in the different countries I visit, and I had read before that “some” restaurants in London are implementing a “forced” gratuitiy about 10 to 12.5 %. But no… it’s not something everybody does. So it’s simple, i’ll keep going to those restaurants that allow me to choose the gratuity I like to give. Because… i might want to leave more … or nothing. Everything depends on the service I receive, but the one, and only one who is going to “put that value in money”, is going to be me, not the restaurant.

Listen, burgers are not unique to the US anymore. Yes, there was a time when the world turned their noses up at this type of food, but those days are long gone. London, much like Paris and other European cities is going through, or should I say, has already gone through a burger revolution. It's very easy to find a burger that will run circles around a lot of places you'd find in NYC, and Honest is one of those places (honestly...had to don't hate me). We happened upon this place our first day in the city, fresh in from Edinburgh in need of a bite. This place was a pretty easy call, it had simple food, great reviews, and a nice cocktail selection. We grabbed a couple of seats at one of the small tables outside, ordered up some large sized drinks (the spiked lemonade was quite good), and settled in. First up were the spicy onion rings, they were pretty much perfect, large, beer battered (I think), and 100% big enough to split between two people. Speaking of splitting, they had a new buffalo chicken sandwich on the menu that we both wanted to try, so we did half of one each along with half an honest burger. It was SPUER hard to pick which was better, as the burger was really really good, but I think I have to give it to the chicken, it was amazeballs.

Edit: received a reply to this review which stated to email to look into it further but it looks like this is just a ploy to show others the owner has responded as they never bothered emailing me despite responding to their post.

Rude staff member, slow service and overall disappointing. We were the first in the queue and were told that there is a ‘long wait’ and told to go outside (we were asking for a table of 2). I asked if I should put my name out and the lady said just to go outside. After us were 5 white gentlemen and within 10 mins they were given their table. Two white men went in thereafter and were seated straight away. Two more white guys walked in and me and my friend (both Asian) walked in thereafter as to be honest, we were quite annoyed that she seated the two parties before us even though we got there first? After 5 minutes of waiting, she told the two people now at the door (in-front of us) it’s a 5 minute wait for 2 people and the kitchen is backed up by 20 minutes. They said they didn’t want to wait and walked off. When it came to our turn, I told her that we had been waiting outside as she told us to yet seated others before us? No apology, just told us to wait. Nothing about the 5 minute wait or the kitchen being backed up to us. She then seated us as luckily someone had finished their meal at the same time. Took our orders and then we waited approx 30-35 minutes for our food and we were seated next to the 2 white guys who went ahead of us (unknowingly). The same waitress provided them with a free drink each for waiting, she specifically said it was because of the ‘long wait time’. But nothing for me and my friend despite waiting the same time, actually longer given the wait time prior to even being seated. The waitress even went back to check that their food was okay, but again, didn’t check on mine or my friends food. Agreed with another review that stated foreign people aren’t welcome. We felt the same and to be honest, we shouldn’t have even paid the service charge for this absolute rubbish service. It was so late in the evening though we had no choice but to stay as we had waited so long in the queue to get in the first place. Please treat all your customers the same way. Really disappointed as we have dined in honest a few times but not at this branch before and won’t be returning. I would suggest to first write peoples names down in order of who got there first, treat all customers the same and don’t provide information to one person e.g about the backed up kitchen but not mention it to others who aren’t white. Please sort your racist staff members out as bottom line is we saw a clear difference and that...

Last Sunday night, my boyfriend and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat at a local shop. It was 10:15 pm, and despite the late hour, we were greeted by a kind lady who we asked if it was okay to place an order as we were hungry and in a rush. She graciously allowed us to sit down and promptly took our order. However, our experience took a turn for the worse due to the unacceptable behavior of one particular staff member. This staff member, a guy with short blonde curly hair, appeared disinterested and rude throughout our brief interaction. He was constantly engrossed in his phone, occasionally glancing up at us with an angry expression and shaking his head. While I understand the desire to close up shop efficiently, his demeanor was unwelcoming and left a sour taste in our mouths. It's worth noting that had it been closing time, I believe the accommodating lady would have informed us.To our surprise, our food arrived promptly, and we made sure to eat quickly. The lady even commented on the speed of our meal, acknowledging our haste. In an effort to show appreciation for her excellent service despite the contrasting behavior of her colleague, I attempted to leave a tip. However, she hesitated to accept it, mentioning a service charge. I explained my intention, and she kindly accepted. As we left the shop, we encountered the same rude staff member outside, disposing of rubbish. We offered a courteous apology and thanked him, but he merely shook his head without acknowledging us. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I know firsthand the importance of providing exceptional customer service, and his dismissive attitude was unacceptable and disappointing. In conclusion, while the lady with dark hair and tall who served us was polite and efficient, the negative demeanour exhibited by the male staff member tarnished what could have been a pleasant dining experience. It is crucial for all staff members, regardless of the circumstances, to treat customers with respect and professionalism. Hopefully, this review serves as a constructive critique for the shop to address issues related to customer service and...

Went here because of the special available at this restaurant- a pesto burger. We ordered 2 specials and the waiter asked for allergies which I told him about - peanut and sesame. He showed me the pad with the allergies listed and I confirmed they were correct. At no time did he express any concerns that the burger I was ordering had any of those allergens, and I was confident that there would be no issue as pesto does not routinely contain peanut.

Upon recieving the burger, there was no pesto in it. I asked the waiter why my burger had no pesto and he told me it was because I said I had allergies. We asked him to clarify, so he went to the kitchen and confirmed it was because I had allergies. After some back and forth we asked him to check with the kitchen what was in the pesto, and he came back and said it had peanut in it.

So rather than the kitchen alerting me that the pesto contained allergens, or the waiter double checking, or really anything, they just sent out a random burger without the key topping which is the whole selling point of the burger. Bear in mind also this burger is more expensive.

I was given the opportunity to order something else which I did, and my meal was comped from the check by the manager which was good of them, but it left a sour taste in my mouth and split the times when my partner and I ate - my meal was delivered and the waiter took my partners plate away because they'd finished.

The waiter then checked on me later and asked "are you happy now?" Which I think was slightly inappropriate for the situation.

I would have had absolutely no problem ordering another item on the menu if I'd been told before the burger was brought to me that I couldn't eat the hero ingredient. I have allergies and am used to having to change plans, and I completely understand the complexities of dealing with people like me, but I have never been delivered a meal with the key ingredient left off and no explanation or warning.

A shame as my experiences at other branches of Honest have only ever been top notch on service and understanding of allergens.

Also, who puts...
