Joice Cafe Stoke Newington — Restaurant in London

I genuinely really love their salads and pastries but I can’t say the same with one of the staff though unfortunately… the very loud shortest one, she did not stop talking for the whole of my meal, even when I came up to pay, she was still chatting with her colleagues, didn’t even tell me how much it was and just pointed the card machine at me, very very rude. She made such a big deal with the salad deal it was quite weird, because I come here and order the same thing all the time 3 salads and a veggie pastry and never once had a problem. I ended up paying £9+ for 2 small salads with a veggie pastry … which I am convinced this is what I normally pay for 3 salads and a pastry. Not sure if she did this on purpose because their salad price has never been clear unless you get 4 salads off a deal, which sometimes people don’t want. I don’t give a toss about a couple of quid, but it was her attitude which prompted me to write this review. I work in digital marketing for hospitality and believe me bad service and rude staff is one of the ones that will stop people from coming to your business. Not sure if I will return to be honest, since there are so many other cafes near that are much friendlier and accommodating like The Parlour, Ribbons and Taylor or Sapid coffee. Pretty little cafe. I was in the area today & needed some food. Ordered a breaded chicken, bacon & salad sandwich. Asked to change the bread from sourdough to brown. That was no problem. On arrival it was an overcooked & leathery chicken & bacon, parts actually burnt hard. I was very hungry so I ate most of it rather than send it back. It's still stuck in my gullet hours later, so I really should have sent it back & left. Staff were really unfriendly & unwelcoming. It's such a lovely little premises, but a cafe needs an actual 'Real' cook that knows how to cook, not destroy ingredients, & servers need to be friendly, welcoming & helpful. I conveyed the reality of the chicken & bacon to a staff member as I paid an inflated price for quite dire food. There was no apology. Michelle clearly needs training in customer service and needs to learn how to smile. Can’t even follow simple requests for orders, looked at me like I was stupid when I repeated my order but still she got it wrong. Openly Slags customers off behind the counter. Intentionally takes long and tells other staff that she’s intentionally taking long. Smashed my food so it burst out. This franchiser should be ashamed to have this woman representing their business. Michelle is someone not aloud to change their mind? Within seconds? I can’t even be bothered to come back and tell Michelle she got the order wrong that she jumped down my throat about and said she didn’t need to be told twice.
