The manager, sorry “owner” of this cafe is Incredibly rude to his staff. I wonder if he hires sweet, unassuming women so he can stomp around and intimidate them? Hmm. Whatever happens behind close doors between management and staff is not my concern, but when I see people being publicly shamed in front of me and other customers it’s another thing. I ordered a cappuccino. I was given a babycinno: note there is no babycinno on the menu display. I handed it back with a smile and said “oh no, I said Cappucino (erm no baby with me either..) but the “owner” then argued that I said babycinno. I was polite but his attitude was starting to wear me down. I thanked the shy female barista and said loudly that she is doing a great job.. to which the owner grunted and said “you don’t know her, she’s only been working here for a few hours, how can you say that??” I asked for my money back and that I’ll go elsewhere so he just commented that “HIS” cafe does very well anyway so it made no difference to him. Arrogant, rude. No wonder the staff seems to be constantly changing and...
Read moreI've been going to Sapid since it opened, so I know the manager and most of the staff well. When I went in on Sunday to get my normal coffee I noticed that the manager was running the shop by himself. No other staff in sight. I asked where his helpers were and he explained that the staff member (Hannah) didn't show up for work and gave no notice. Considering Sunday is a very busy day on Church Street and Sapid is very busy, he handled the pressure well and kept customer service high. You could see he was under immense pressure though. All the staff seem really happy to me when I go into Sapid; bubbly, smiling, talkative and happy with the manager. They seem to have a good friendship, and even most of the old staff come back to cover shifts and pass by to grab a coffee. I also remember a really good staff member, an Asian girl, who was pregnant and still worked there for a few months without any issues. The manager always praises her for being a great employee. I'm not sure this review reflects...
Read moreI've already had average customer service at this place before, but as it was the only place open, I decided to give it another try this morning. Today sealed the deal. Won't be going back.
Asked the guy behind the counter about their filter coffee. He didn't have much time for that question and said he hadn't tried it. Fair enough.
Decided to buy a bag anyway, and after waiting to be served, asked for him to grind it - a fairly normal request when you buy a bag of coffee.
He bluntly told me no. "We don't grind coffee on Sundays" - no explanation. So I'm curious now, and I ask why not? "Because we are too busy". There was LITERALLY no one in the queue and a near empty coffee shop. When I said, "but it's really quiet", he told me he had sandwiches to make.
Rude, cold and unhelpful. I understand working on a Sunday morning isn't fun, (I've done it), but this sealed the deal. As a local I won't be coming back. Time for some customer service training for the...
