I used to swing by every morning pre-pandemic to grab a toasted bagel to eat on the way to work. Really craved going back after years, and decided to sit in for a Sunday brunch. The service was terrible. I hate to be that person and leave bad reviews. The place wasn't even crazy busy, there was a super nice guy making the coffees and serving the counter, the other guy was just a mess. While friendly at first when taking our orders, he started getting increasingly and visibly irritated when the food got to our table and he realised he got the order wrong. Then later on we added more coffees and a cake, and we had to wait for more than 10minutes for the cake to be served, after we had already finished our second round of coffees. The cake was literally there on the plate, waiting to be served. We got up and offered to take it to the table ourselves. Before heading off, I wanted to have a glass of tap water, but there was none on hand for customers to help themselves, so I asked to have some. The guy looked at me very annoyed and said "yes, but you have to give me a minute". Obviously, more time passed, I asked again going straight to the counter and he shook his head and he said "you have to wait, I can't now". So we decided to pay and leave. I would go back for takeaway and because the place is very cute, especially the garden, but I was quite bruised with...
Read morePLEASE AVOID - this cafe needs a food safety inspection. My friend and I got severe food poisoning from eating a slice of the vegan carrot cake.
I wish I didn’t have to write this because the staff were nice, but it was the sickest I’ve ever been and I’m still recovering. Looking through their reviews, it’s clear that they have had bad food practices for a number of years.
It was the first time we had been to this cafe. We saw desserts from the window and decided to buy the slice for takeaway. Whilst sharing it, we noticed that it tasted weird, almost like a strong dairy taste. In hindsight this was a bad sign because it was supposedly vegan, but we assumed it was fine and just an odd recipe. We were very wrong. A few hours later we both had extremely bad stomachs. I spent the night lying on my bathroom floor with a fever and vomiting. It was so awful I couldn’t move and had to call 111 for help.
I am deeply upset by this entire experience. Not only because my friend and I became so extremely ill but also in the knowledge that the cafe has continued to operate when they have had several complaints about bad food. I can’t imagine what might happen to someone in this position who is of poor health or has a compromised immune system. It was really that bad....
Read moreI visited this cafe for the 1st time today and was disgusted by the attitude of the staff and the poor quality of food. Firstly, one of the food orders was incorrect, the waitress took the order down correctly but the food was not what we ordered. I had to explain to 2 different waitresses why the food was wrong, I was given dirty looks and lots of huffing before they agreed to provide us with a new baguette with tuna sweetcorn and mayo. It wasn’t a difficult order! I ordered a gluten-free sandwich, and the filling was dry like it had been left out all day. The bread was toasted but stale and I was unable to eat my meal. I complained to the waitress and said I would pay for the 2 other meals but not the gluten-free sandwich as I was not able to eat the food. I thought this was reasonable considering the returned tuna baguette was practically empty. I was then threatened by the waitress with the police being called which is ridiculous as this is not a criminal offence. Customers are legally entitled to refuse to pay their bill if they believe that the food served to them was not of an adequate standard. Which this was not. The cafe wasn’t busy so there was no excuse for the poor service and food....
