I went to La Ferme on many occasions and have always had a great time, but I'll review the most recent one.
I went to La Ferme with two of my friends on Monday at around 7pm. It was the launch of their new summer menu and the place was abuzz with lively chatter and the sound of live jazz music.
We were treated very well and ordered three glasses of champagne to start. I'm not sure where it was from but it was maybe a demi-sec (I'm no champagne expert either lol) but it was delicious!
As a starter I went for the melon marinated in Rasteau wine and Bayonne ham, and my friends had the coeur de boeuf tomato and the salade nicoise respectively. I personally preferred my own starter (but my bias is perhaps expected) although theirs had nothing wrong and were as beautifully plated. The melon was light yet boozy which is all I want in a starter as it turns out.
For mains I went for the rabbit leg. I had never had rabbit in my life and I thought I needed to be a grown up and have rabbit already. The dish did also sound delicious. My friends ordered the Les Petits Farcies, which are stuffed summer vegetables with veal and rocket salad, and the Carre D'Agneau: a rack of lamb served with courgette puree, apricots and fresh almonds. The lamb was juicy and served at the perfect temperature. My dish was tasty as well, in particular the little roasted small white onions that came with it. I wished there could have been more on my plate as these were surprisingly amazing.
We picked the fraisier margaux, verrine exotique with vanilla emulsion and the eclair Paris-Brest as desserts. The Paris-Brest was to die for. Rich in all its nutty glory. The verrine was an exotic fruit salad with a biscuit base and the fraisier was strawberries on a biscuit base as well. They were a bit more elaborate but I don't know how to describe them.
All in all it was a great dinner. It was the perfect way for my friends and me to enjoy a nice piece of meat in the summer as we each had three courses and did not feel heavy or bloated. It is a very well thought out menu for the season while retaining its french identity.
La Ferme is definitely a great find for authentic french cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming environment and at an affordable price! Affordable restaurants such as this are such a rarity that it's without a doubt worth...
Read moreReply to owner's response. Sadly disingenuous response confirms our comments. Specifically: We did complain about cold food which was returned and reheated. 2.About prices - we queried some of these on the night and pointed out the considerable increase for e.g the charcuterie. The dessert at £11 was tiny and thus very overpriced- not seen until delivered at table. The wet dog smell was not cheese- please! - it was a wet dog at the next table. Of course restaurant prices have increased in line with inflation. My point is La petite ferme's have increased massively, and in my opinion, no longer represent good value in comparison to restaurants of equivalent or better quality. E.g a bottle of red wine we had previously has doubled in priced in the last 15 months. So we must agree to differ, but manager, please try to be less defensive and more open to genuine constructive criticism from someone who has praised and recommended you in the past. Brian
A very sad experience. First went to la petite ferme a few years ago and then it struck a nice Balance between good food, nice wine and friendly service at reasonable prices. Visited a few times since and recommended it and found it broadly the same although noticed a general above average upward price creep. I'm afraid 2 weeks ago it had gone to a place where none of the positives are now true. The prices are exorbitant, the food was very poor. And the place smelt strongly of wet dog. It's a sad loss, but profit now seems to trump quality, and commercialism has replaced the previous genuine cosy Gallic charm. Sadly, we will not be returning unless there's a...
Read moreI have been searching high and low for a place in London which serves bottomless raclette for my partner who loves it. I was a bit concerned with coming here as I was not sure how the experience would be using individual trays to melt the raclette (versus previous experiences with melting half a wheel directly). However, I decided to give it a try as I loved that it was bottomless. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and got seated at a really nice table by the window. We were quickly briefed on how to use the raclette grill which sat on our table. We decided to try the normal raclette and added on the smoked, wild garlic and truffle raclette. The food came quickly and as others have mentioned, the portion very generous. It turns out that the individual trays made it a much better experience as you could try so many different types of raclette. The raclette melted quickly and we ate at a steady pace. Although the food was amazing, we felt that the service was outstanding and made the experience for us. We were checked on multiple times and everyone was so friendly and kind. We will definitely come back because we haven’t tried their desserts! Great...
