Was keen to try this place after reading so many positive reviews and seeing it so full, but wish we hadn't bothered.
Came with friends for Sunday brunch. A friend and I had the chicken sandwich. For £13 you'd think it would come with more of a side salad, but we just got a few scraggly bits of rocket. The sandwich itself was poor. I guess the assumption was that we'd get slices of healthy chicken breast, but instead it was slivers of fatty thigh or leg meat with the skin still on. My friend picked most of hers out and I got lots of hard, grisly bits in my mouth.
It was a really stingy portion of chicken, so wasn't much of a chicken sandwich. Mine was also super soggy and the poor quality meat was really unappetising, especially for what they charge. Most of my mouthfuls were just the bread and avocado.
Halfway through our brunch, they decided to turn the music right up, so we could barely hear each other speak. Asked the manager to turn it back down, but he refused and walked off. Rude! Might have stayed to try one of their desserts (especially since we were still a little hungry after the mediocre food), but the pounding bass was giving me a headache and I literally had to leave. The music was more suited to an evening drinks venue - It was so out of place for a Sunday brunch. Staff overall were aloof and uninterested, but that's also no surprise, since the manager was pretty rude himself. Standards are obviously low at this place for service.
Wish we had just gone...
Read moreAweful, horrible, rude staff who seem to want to actively chase customers away. We ordered a takeaway coffee- we noticed the lid was not firm and it was spilling on my gloves so we told the barista that it was leaking and showed the drip and confirmed whether it was from the mouthpiece or side lid. At this time, another staff (we later found out he was the manger), came around put his head between me and my husband and abruptly told us to not spill things on the table. There was no hi, hello, excuse me or asking if we needed help. Just ordering us to stop the spill like we were children. Incredibly rude, and when tried to explain the lid issue, he turned his back and walked away. Appalled by such abrupt rudeness, we tried to speak to him, he completely ignored us and walked to another waitress and it was clear he was talking about us. We demanded an apology. He at first refused then reluctantly half apologised. At this time, another waitress came to me to lecture us- that it's 11am in the morning and we should all try to be kind. We had been nothing but kind until they treated us this way. I told her that if you treat people nicely, maybe they can be kind back. We've lived in London for 10 years but this was the most appalling customer service we've so far experienced at a...
Read moreWorked here for a little bit. Rudest most toxic place I've ever stepped foot in. This dude Mirek, one of the managers, was a complete knobhead. Micromanaging to the max. Hostile to staff. I witnessed him punch the oven like a baby when it didn't work properly. Everything bad in a manager. Got funny when I didn't put his bananas on the chopping board properly - once he moved them an inch, for his own ego, it would all be ok. It speaks volumes to whoever hired him. Wow. What a shame. I remember talking to chefs in the morning (who were lovely) As soon as he stepped in, no more conversation. It seemed as if he haunted the place and people were fearful of him lashing out.
Makes me laugh. They celebrate a Zen brand when in reality this place is the opposite.
I'm now working a similar job and it has made me realise just how toxic this place is.
