The one star rating is solely there because we've enjoyed this place for 2-3 years now without a problem. Now, we wouldn't ever step back here again, I don't even want to get close to this place. First off, the food was always good quality and you got a good amount of it, staff were friendly and talkative and didn't treat you like you aren't welcome in the shop. Since then they changed the people that serve the food and it all went upside down. This was an incident a few weeks ago where we've visited the shop late, around 8-9pm and asked for a mix and match what we usually ask for. It was quite busy so that the stress is understandable however the service was really bad. First off, there wasn't a lot of katsu curry however there were enough for at least 3 4 portions for sure. We've received two pieces, yes two pieces of chicken and 8 pieces of sweet chilly chicken which is the usual portion of the sweet chilli. We came here at least 3 times a week and never got this bad service. When I asked to. Get more curry, the young tall guy with glasses looked at us like we've murdered someone. If he wants to save the chicken, don't do it on us. After that I've dropped some of the food by mistake as the container was really soaked, which then again, both of the servers gave us an angry look. After two apologies they didn't even try to ask if we were okay or say at least a 'don't worry about it'. I went there to clean it up myself and didn't even receive a thank you for it. What we did receive though was a stare from both of the servers constantly until we left. Disappointed. On the other hand, a kokoro in Croydon opened which is much closer And the staff and the food cannot even be compared to the wimbledon one. You are made to feel welcome, everybody gets greeted at all times even in the middle of Busy, the shop is clean and the food is...
Read moreSoon after I started working at an office located in Wimbledon, I've discovered quite a few Japanese places within walking distance of my new office. I am now going regularly to three different places, and Kokoro right at Wimbledon station is one of them.
The little shop has proven to be quite popular among local workers and pupils, as it can get incredibly busy at times. But usually, the friendly and efficient team copes surprisingly well with the queue of people, and most of the time, you won't have to wait too long.
I really like Kokoro, I think their Chicken Katsu Curry is good value for money. The curry sauce has the right thickness, the sticky rice is cooked well and they are generous with the crispy chicken. Only once I was was not entirely happy with the chicken pieces, because some small bits were a bit tough.
It still makes me smile when I see them cutting the chicken strips with scissors - I would never have thought of that, but it is an efficient and fast way to cut fried chicken in a small and busy kitchen.
While it is primarily a takeaway, they also have a few tables and I have spent many lunch breaks there. So far, I always found a place to sit, even when there was a long queue.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the food and the service at Kokoro. They offer quick and consistently tasty food. The staff - mostly Japanese, I guess - are very nice and always have a smile on their face. If you are looking for something delicious and filling, I can really recommend Kokoro just outside Wimbledon station in the Centre Court...
Read moreI used to drop by for takeaway quite often. Their portions are more than generous, the sweet chilli chicken is fantastic (so is their katsu curry, or pretty much everything else I've tried) and the staff was always polite and efficient.
Having said that, over the last couple of months I've noticed they are very short staffed. This is an incredibly busy shop for its size, both for the delivery orders that are coming in and the customers waiting to pick up takeaway food. The workers in the shop are incredibly overworked, often holding up the kitchen and the FOH with 2-3 people.
I've stopped visiting because it's just impossible to visit anymore. Because of so few people working, the wait time can be anywhere between 30-40 minutes, not to mention they run out of food incredibly fast. The queue is always out the store, and the delivery people are rude to your staff often as well.
There's clearly a need for extra people to work there if this shop is ever to get back to what it was. Given how busy you are I doubt you care about just how bad the place is for your workers, who I'm guessing will keep quitting because I've seen a lot of new faces come and go, so I guess do with this review...
