I have been going to Lantana for quite a few years so don’t write this lightly!! I’m sad to say that due to the last 2 times I have gone to Lantana In the last few weeks-I’m not sure I could justify paying to eat or drink there again. This past weekend I had brought 2 friends complimenting both the food and drink. We had other options but it was me that got my way ;) so was pretty embarrassed at the outcome. Lantana have a dish on the menu “courgette bread” which includes various items on a homemade courgette loaf. However other than the bread, I’m not a huge fan of the rest of the ingredients but on previous occasions (after various over charging and difficulty) I was able to order “any eggs with sourdough” but replacing the sourdough bread with courgette loaf for an additional charge-no big deal right?? Having previously had that 3 times AND paid extra simply ordered the same again. I was then told a few minutes later that I’m not allowed to do that and that the manager had “put a stop to it”??????? Put a stop to allowing a paying customer to enjoy another item on their menu???? So I had to order the courgette bread as a dish then remove all the items except the egg. So I paid £11 for 1 slice of bread and egg and then I had to pay extra for avocado? “Putting a stop” is not valid reason to tell a customer!! On the previous time I visited there a was a small queue outside. When I walked in I saw one of the staff audibly swear as he saw a few more join the queue behind! After waiting for 25 minutes he proceeded to offer the 2 females behind me a table for 2 despite me being there before them. I explained that I was in the queue before them and that I was being penalised for being alone. I left the queue and went elsewhere. The lady that dealt with us this weekend was actually lovely and very apologetic about the courgette loaf embargo but overall find the service very inconsistent on all my previous visits. I made my own courgette loaf last night so who...
Read moreCame here for brunch with a friend on Saturday. Glad that we had booked a table beforehand because it was quite packed at 12noon. I have previously been to their other branch in Shoreditch so am quite a regular customer and am aware that different branches have different menus. My friend is vegan and she suggested we come here again because she had a great food experience last time.
I went with the lemon and raspberry french toast and a flat white and my friend ordered the avocado poke bowl and a fresh orange juice. My french toast was alright because it was quite dry with every limited amount of raspberry jam sauce around the plate and the lemon crème fraiche in the middle which wasn't sufficient to make the toast bread softer and easier to eat. The sauce was good but definitely would have appreciated a lot more of it especially with the hazelnut crumbles that absorbed a lot of the jam. Flat white was average. My friend enjoy her poke bowl and said that there could have been more rice to go with all the toppings she had. I enjoyed the food I had last two times in the Shoreditch branch so was quite disappointed with the experience this time.
Service wise, staff were all very friendly, smiley and attentive. Vibe wise it was cost and chill. But the table was very small to fit in two plates, two cups and a bottle of tap water. They really need to do something about it because the space is tight and people were so loud so it was really hard to talk freely when we were there. Not sure if I would come back soon in the near future as it's also quite a pricey brunch place compared to other cafés around...
Read moreI went here on 09/08/17 with two Aussie friends; I'm British but lived in Sydney for the past 5 years. Obviously we were comparing everything to Australian standards, not least as this is an Aussie-style place. It was fairly full for a rainy Wednesday morning so obviously it has a good reputation. The ground floor was nice and light; the basement was atmospheric with dangling lighting and wooden seating etc. and unfortunately water suddenly dripped from an overhead pipe so we had to move our coats at one point. The service to begin with was friendly and somewhat efficient, if lacking in consistency. My first flat white was not hot enough to my taste but the second was perfect; they were both really flavoursome however. The food was pretty good. The absolute stinker though was at the till, where the person serving us' attitude, rather than being utterly solicitous and courteous, was that she couldn't have cared less and would rather have been elsewhere. However she really should have cared, given that for 3 people to have a couple of coffees and brunch the price tag was an astounding £73 (AUD 120). Even for London this was jaw-droppingly expensive and I was embarrassed to be British, especially as the food and drink were not the best we'd ever tasted - which you'd expect at that price. So until they clean up their service and pricing act I'd recommend a takeaway coffee but not much else. I'm giving 3 stars for the coffee rather than...
