Updated Review:
I’ve been here a few times and I’ve always loved it, but I went here last night for my birthday and unfortunately had a very different experience.
The food was delicious as always, but the service was incredibly slow and lacklustre. We waited nearly 2 hours for our food to come, even though our starters were all things that could’ve been prepared in 15 minutes. We were constantly having to remind the waitress to bring our tap water, drinks, and anything else we’d ordered earlier. For instance we ordered tap water when we arrived, we asked for it 4 times, and we finally got it as we were already eating our mains (so that’s a 2h wait). The waitress then suggested things were coming late because we took a while to order, which was pretty rude considering we ordered at the first opportunity. I understand that sometimes there can be unforeseen challenges, but there was no communication of that to us - we were always told that things were “just coming now”, and then 15 minutes later we’d have to go and check up on things.
In light of this we decided to remove service charge from the bill - I’ve never done this before, but the service was particularly poor, and it left me feeling embarrassed that I’d invited all my friends to a special meal, and it had gone wrong. Our server was also rude about us taking off service charge, and made lots of comments under her breath as she cleared our table. As someone who works in a restaurant myself I had hoped for much better service, and I found all of this to be a big disappointment compared with what I was expecting from Laza. My previous experiences here have been fantastic and service has been attentive, so I don’t know what went wrong here.
Once again - the food is always great, but the level of service means I probably won’t be inviting anyone back here...

Read moreI’m not a food critic but, believe me, I know quality flavours when it comes to Zhigni, Alicha, Kuluwa and all the other dishes as I grew up on these types of food. Well, what I had in this restaurant was majestic in terms of flavour and portion. Besides to their delicious zhigni, vegan menu and desserts, their hospitality and generosity were second to none. I was absolutely flabbergasted at the amount of food that was brought to us from the get going, in comparison to the overall cost. £10 will definitely feed and satisfy two people with ease. You don’t have to have a fat wallet to have a nice meal and enjoy your evening. Good feed for money. Injera (pancake look alike bread) and extra zhigni sauce could be ordered at an extra £ or two. Not that you need it but just in case. I also recommend that you use your fingers to feed, in order to enjoy the authenticity of the finger licking flavours. But please make sure you don’t chew your fingers by mistake. Trust me; those different flavours will leave you...
