Lombok Thai — Restaurant in London

This Thai is lovely and the service on the night we were there was immaculate. The mixed platter we had as a starter was delicious. For mains my wife had the Pad King with battered cod and she really liked it.

So now we come to my main: green curry with chicken. The sauce was delicate and delicious, but the chicken... The chicken tasted as if it had been boiled in water and just tossed into the sauce before serving up: an incredible disservice to the sauce. Devoid of taste - in fact unpleasant - the only way to eat the chicken was to make sure I put it in my mouth with a good quantity of sauce.

This is a real shame for an otherwise lovely restaurant. I do understand that doing the right thing - marinating the chicken in advance - could potentially lead to waste, but surely a freezer can help here? I'm not an expert in how other Thai restaurants manage, and I know that some do exactly like the Lombok so they are certainly not alone, but why spoil a dish just to make things easier in the kitchen?

Lombok Thai is hands down one of my favourite spots, and every visit is a delight! The food is always absolutely delicious. I always find myself torn between my favourite dishes because they’re all so good! The Drunken Noodles are perfectly spiced and packed with flavour, the Duck and Lychee Red Curry is a delightful balance of sweet and savoury, and the Papaya Salad is refreshing with just the right amount of tang and crunch. The Jungle Fried Rice is another must-have, and the Duck Jungle Hotplate, which is bold, sizzling, and aromatic, showcasing tender ducks that are bursting with flavour. And don't even get me started on the Soft Shell Crab – it's a crispy, melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece, a must-try!

Beyond the fantastic food, the cosy atmosphere at Lombok Thai makes it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a great meal. Whether you’re there for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, the warm, welcoming environment and excellent service make every experience memorable. Visited on a Sunday at 6pm with a large pram 3 adults and 2 kids. Clearly the place is not designed for this, which is fine.

The staff however looked at us in shock, on requesting a table they said that’s fine.

They then pointed us to an Awkward table in the centre. We asked what time other patrons would arrive we were advised in an hour. So we asked if we could eat and be out in an hour. This was refused.

We then began to sit down on the table they had picked and a grumble came from a waiter that they have no high chairs - again fine - but the way the staff behaved was hilariously bad.

I feel that this place must be great from so many good reviews and am very saddened that bad staff can make for such a bad experience.

Advice: next time be up front and state - I’m sorry we are quite busy tonight and don’t really have space for large peaks and we don’t have high chairs. Would have been understandable and not wasted...
