Have seen this place recommended a lot but was pretty disappointed. It's a fairly limited menu with only 5 mains, so I'm confused why a vegan restaurant would choose to make two of those dishes burgers with one being a beyond burger- any vegan knows that's the standard fare at any non-vegan restaurant, so it's not particularly adventurous. That isn't the reason I gave a low rating though.
The service was sloppy. The servers were friendly enough, but let us down in a couple of ways. First, they gave my friend a cup of cleaning fluid instead of hot chocolate- I'm not joking, it looked normal but as soon as she tasted it she said it tasted like washing liquid. A couple of us then tried it and confirmed it tasted like cleaning chemicals. We sent it back and they admitted they had been cleaning the machine and hadn't washed it through fully before making her drink. I understand that mistakes can happen, but they weren't particularly apologetic- just a short sorry and laughed it off when they brought a replacement. Mistake or not, it's fairly serious as it's toxic to serve cleaning chemicals to someone- they didn't offer to adjust our bill or anything, so I asked for them to remove the drink and they did (which I credit them for, though it felt awkward that I had to ask). They also ran out of stracciatella for the ragu and mentioned they would discount the price for those of us that ordered it. If we had known when they'd taken our order we might have chosen differently, so again it felt a bit sloppy that the waiter hadn't known before taking our order- it's a small restaurant and there were only two other tables occupied, so it's not like they could have had a rush on orders for that dish and have it happen suddenly. They then also forgot to discount it on our bill, so again we had to ask.
We were seated in the outdoor area which had nice vibes, and a heater to stop it from being cold even though we were outside late in the evening (8:45-10:30). The service was a little slow, but we didn't mind too much as personally I prefer that to being harassed by waiters too frequently. Again to their credit, we were their last customers of the day but they didn't try to rush us out as I've seen other reviews mention.
The food itself was nice, but expensive for what it was. Overall, unfortunately, I can't recommend this place- mainly due to the service, and a bit due...
Read morePeachy Goat, what a delightful little find nestled right by the station in Herne Hill. It's not the sort of place where you'll be served haute cuisine with a side of pretension, but rather, it's a charming, unassuming spot that knows exactly what it is and does it well.
The ambiance? Think of it as your favorite neighborhood hangout, but with just enough flair to make it feel like a proper evening out. We dined as two adult couples and immediately warmed to the place—it’s quaint, comfortable, and there's a certain unpolished charm that feels refreshingly honest.
Now, let’s talk food. We didn’t venture into the mains, but the starters were quite the treat! Delicious, uncomplicated, and bursting with flavor. It’s not Michelin-star stuff, but honestly, who needs that when you’ve got plates like these? The kitchen knows its way around good ingredients, and it shows.
For those who enjoy a tipple, the lager and IPA on tap are cracking good choices. Both are well worth a try—perfect for quenching your thirst and easing into the evening. The service? Absolutely spot on—attentive without being overbearing, the sort of service that makes you feel well looked after.
What makes Peachy Goat stand out is its ability to strike a balance—neither too posh nor too grubby. There are outdoor tables and benches, perfect for a breezy evening. It’s a place that understands its local crowd—regulars who appreciate a good meal in a relaxed setting without the commotion of a gastropub or the airs of a high-end restaurant.
So, if you find yourself in Herne Hill and fancy something a bit special without the need to dress to the nines, give Peachy Goat a whirl. It’s a little vegan gem that’s comfortable in its own skin, and quite frankly, that’s exactly what we...
Read moreWas hoping for a quiet drink and conversation with a friend. Not quite knowing if it were a bar or restaurant (kind of looked a bit like both) we chanced it. Walked up to the bar and asked if it would be ok to just have a drink. The (strange) response was we could have booze (cocktails, beer, that sort of thing) or food. I then clarified and asked again if we could just have a drink. The response was the same with the additional information that we couldn't have a soft drink. Thinking that a bit strange I then asked what if someone was a recovering alcoholic to which there was no response, only that since they opened it was their policy to only serve food or alcohol. Say what? As a only very occasional drinker I certainly then felt forced to drink alcohol, which I wasn't prepared to do. My friend would quite happily have had an alcoholic drink. I then peeked at the food menu and asked if I could order a small snack instead. To which the answer was their kitchen was closed. You cannot make this up. There was a large table free and a smaller one. He could have served one alcoholic, one non alcoholic drink (some places have fantastic mocktail menus), made a bit of extra cash, have 2 happy and possibly returning customers. But their "policy". Well in this day and age it seems policy prevails over customer service or any sense of business savvy. I will certainly not be back. As a matter of principle. He can...
