I think everyone can remember the best meal they've ever had. Mine was on the shores of Turkbuku, a suave, rustic village nestled into the hills in Turkey's Bodrum peninsula. The warm waves lapped over my feet as we ate by star and candle light. I had a 'Yogurtlu kebap' it was deconstructed (so all the composite parts were there) and served in a terracotta dish with the large flavoursome but not hot chilli peppers, with a huge table salad doused in pomegranate oil.
Saray provided me with the closest meal to that experience to date! Accepted; Hernehill is not in a warm bay with yachts, but the quality of Saray's food took me back to my most experiential meal yet!
The food is great at Sarray, the menu is coupled with authentic and ones that have clearly been made for the English audience - you can tell because some dishes have Turkish names and others dont. You have confidence installed in you as you can see directly into the kitchen and see just how your butter washed lamb shish is coming along.
The staff were friendly and helpful and our waiter looked pleased when we asked for a Raki to end the meal with.
I WILL be returning, and as much as I want to relive that most amazing meal, I know it can never be truly replicated, however Saray's food...
Read moreI've been to this restaurant many times and have always had a really lovely experience. Today I went with my 3 sons and mum for her bday. My middle son who is 15 but 6' 4" walked ahead of us and entered the restaurant alone. One waiter asked him if he could help and asked if he is there to eat. My son answered yes. He then responded to my son, if you are not eating then can you leave! My son responded that we have a booking and his parent is coming, and at that point I and the rest of the family entered. I did not know this had happened and am so disappointed that my son was racially profiled upon entering the restaurant. The service was attentive and food was delicious as always but had I known the treatment of my son we would have probably left and gone elsewhere. Apparently the waiter apologised to my son but it is still not acceptable to treat young black men like this in this day and age. It's a shame that my family won't be visiting again because of...
Read moreWe paid for £50 for two people for set menu. The houmous was dry, the cold starters were ok and the hot starters were ok too. The main course arrived, the chicken cubes and wings were eatable but the kebabs were absolutely bad, not cooked and old. I have been eating Turkish food in London for over 14 years. This is one of the worst I had. The owner didn’t had the decency to even come and be a host, the least to apologise or offer a 10% gesture or a free tea which will cost him less than 50p. I complained that the meat was old and he said that the meat is only 2 days old! I don’t think it is fair the way we were treated and the owner was quite aggressive. I left and told the waiter that the boss is very rude. So unprofessional and I ethical, all we wanted is to have a nice meal. I do not recommend this to anyone who really tried Turkish food and knows what Turkish food...
