Would love to say this place is great. Really hoped it would be and they have done a great job with the decor - it looks great. But........
...... you go to a restaurant for the food and having eaten here twice, it is awful.
I love Italian (see Forno22 and Coda di Volpe Pizzeria (now closed)) and cook Italian regularly and unfortunately, I don't just cook a bit better, but a lot better than the food here.
The menu is extensive, possibly too extensive(?), but the fact that they obviously don't taste the food before sending it out is apparent. I have had 3 meals there (been twice).
The first one, (opening weekend - the place was a zoo - had a special offer on so gave them the benefit of the doubt) was Italian sausage pasta. Completely tasteless. My wife thought her food (Lasagne - oddly served with chips) was fine - not the best and not the worst
We keep saying that we will try it again and did so last week and the first time the place was so full and so new. But we wont be going back again.
Wife again had the Lasagne - one single layer of vegetarian Lasagne - no veg just tomato sauce on a layer of lasagne sheet. This was pointed out to the waitress who was adamant that there were 3 - just looking at you could see that there wasn't 3 as it was in the bottom of dish.
My first serving of Salmon pasta was so heavily salted that I had return it. No problems a new one was brought out. This one zero flavour.
We walk past this place as it is the closest restaurant to us and it is always empty - given what they probably spent on doing the place up - this is a tragedy, but they need to spend some money on the food and getting the...
Read moreOpening evening of a new Italian restaurant, in an area (Acton Hill) previously without one. Overall, very good and definitely recommended. Food was excellent, ambience and decor attractive and the service welcoming and attentive. Presently without a licence, so BYO. Tiny caveat - two of the dishes were not really what were described in the menu. The starter funghi al forno was actually a disc of soft goat's cheese on a thin bed of sliced mushrooms and spinach - absolutely delicious, but sufficiently misleading to prompt the table next to us to return theirs as the wrong starter. Similarly, my pasta, billed as parpadelle pancetta with asparagus tips, came looking like a carbonara - no sign of any asparagus tips. So I sent it back. Some dark green shavings were then claimed by the kitchen to be the asparagus - but, please, these weren't asparagus tips. The dish was ok, though not special or as advertised. But still, overall, a welcome new Italian restaurant. I asked the manager whether they will introduce a set lunch menu - they said they will consider it. I hope...
Read moreAbsolutely appalled at the attitude of the owner or Manager who was sitting outside smoking and on her phone. I was buying some groceries from the supermarket next door and then was planning to have dinner there with my daughter and husband after I had finished the shopping from next door. To my surprise my husband said when he asked if our 7 year old could use their toilet as she was desperate whilst I was still shopping she rudely said it’s for customers only! The restaurant was completely empty and we were going to dine there so as a new business I would have expected a more welcoming approach. When I asked her why she would deny a child the use of the toilet she said those are our rules. When I said but we were going to have dinner here she said well that’s how it is so I said it’s a shame. She then swore at me!! I was...
