I can honestly say I feel down, disappointed, dissatisfied and ripped off after going to Majjo's.
Service was ok and place itself was ok, the people there was nice and made the effort. But none of that could compensate for the minuses - very small portions and very expensive, I would have eaten more even on a diet! They were so small I asked if they were full portions as they offer half or full, but I wasn't willing to order more as I knew the portions are small because they are too focused on profit.
The thing is the food itself (rice, dal, bread etc and vegetarian food) is very cheap anyway. It's stupid really that they think they can make more profit by saving on products which are very cheep - you make money on volume by selling a lot, ie bigger portions, lower prices and therefore more customers and more returning customers. The place was almost empty on a Saturday evening, so they're not getting much business but they would if they improved the portions sizes and decreased the prices.
The also have too little variety and not enough vegetarian food. The menu was also too complicated and we had to ask many questions when we ordered to find out and get what we wanted.
So I wouldn't go back and next time, I'm going to read reviews as others here had already posted the same complaints about prices and...
Read moreWe have had food from the takeaway section of Majjo's many times before and it is always excellent - really tasty, interesting curries, different to your bog standard indian or pakistani takeaway.
Last Saturday we decided to try the actual restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, as we expected, and the service was fantastic as well - really friendly staff. The restaurant itself is clean and pleasant, but perhaps lacks a little bit of atmosphere. We got chatting to the owner and she asked for feedback on the decor as it's something she is trying to improve. Hopefully she will address the lighting and decoration to make it slightly more inviting and atmospheric as the food here is absolutely superb and it could, and should, be a thriving local restaurant. It's slightly off the main drag and unseen from the High Road - but it is well worth seeking out! It would be a real shame if another local, independent restaurant were to go under - especially one that is so good - so please give it a try and you won't be...
Read moreGreat tasting food (except the chicken korma, quite possibly the worst food I’ve ever been served. A salty oily broth with unseasoned/marinated boiled anaemic meat is not a curry, see photo). As many other reviews have mentioned, the portion sizes are not meeting expectations. Would be useful to have the weight on the website to avoid confusion. The small portions are about the size of my palm, something to be aware of. I would also argue meat is not their forte as when ordering veg only previously, it was a delight. And yes you do need to heat up at home which should be mentioned more clearly, but really not a problem. Samosas are great. However, put all this together and I would hesitate...
