Don't know what happened today but I'm assuming big problems with staffing.
Went to grove house tavern for roast today for 3pm. Our group looked at the menu and considered our choices for a while - then went for a mix of pork and beef orders, then when we went to order - only beef left. Ok fine - we'll all have that. After ordering (and already paying!) They said no yorkshires and we asked for some stuffing as a sub. Then they came over and said no leeks and we asked for bonus roasties for a sub.
When food came the roasties were really grim - cold and rock solid on the outside - as if they were cooked at noon and left on the side. The beef though was incredible - normally avoid beef at a roast scared of it being dry , but really very nice.
On the subs - as mentioned before bonus roasties was not a blessing. On the stuffing , in place of a yorkshire per person we were presented with 5 tiny balls of stuffing , less than one per person , and not really an adequate replacement.
We had room for desserts and went to order - and then surprise surprise - no desserts , sold out.
Not related to Mondo , but grove house service wasn't great , lots of confusion between staff and lack of understanding our...
Read moreTake me to church⦠burger church, where prayers are two pieces of bread filled with deliciousness, that are Mondo Sando sandwiches.
Having tried their incredible fish finger sarnie at the āSarnie Pattyā festival, I really had to see how they smash their burgers. A crispy, meaty altar, it was incredibly juicy with caramelised onions, that dirty American melty cheese thatās so wrong and yet so right, pickles, burger sauce and great brioche buns with the burger oozing out the sides the way it should do to tease your teeth round it.
Itās a cracking burger, which I upgraded from meal deal fries, to a larger portion coated in aioli and bravas sauce. Worth it and Iād argue strategic to create a scaffolding to hold the satisfaction Iām feeling.
Make the pilgrimage to Mondo Sando at Grove House Tavern, but donāt make the mistake I made, by not going with my food warrior partner that we could try that much more across the excellent menu....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreExpecting to pick up my order and head off to a pub, I arrived and turns out this place is in a pub. Ordered a round of drinks and got to waiting for the sandwiches. Scranned on some chips while waiting. Skinny fries which aren't my first choice but they were good. The brava sauce on the chips with the aioli were good. Tucked into a mondo frango. Spice level was perfect. Mushy peas on the sandwich somehow worked. Chicken thighs in a sandwich though? Felt a bit odd. 7/10. Moved onto the turkey Caesar. It was scintillating. The subtle smokiness was amazing. The turkey was not dry in the slightest and was seasoned to perfection. The pickled onions were slightly sweet and just played incredibly off the turkey and the sauce. 9/10. The bread for both was just a basic white roll. But it was fresh. The ordinary but in its best possible form. Service and atmosphere in the pub was elite. I...
