Great ales & wide selection plus a vast selection of bottled beers & cans available from self-service fridges. Some of the draught ales are very, very strong, sold in ⅓pt, which is just as well as a full pint would have you struggling to maintain your balance! 😉 The place has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and they play some good music too, but not so intrusive that you can't have a conversation. Last time I was delighted to hear some Fat Freddy's Drop, one of my favourite bands. It all adds to the conducive atmosphere. You often end up sharing a table, as it's frequently busy and they're at a premium, but that can add to the fun too; you could well find yourself starting a genuine new friendship. Considering how crowded it gets, especially inside, it's just as well it's got such a laid back, easy going vibe, which is just as much down to the clientele as anything else. There is a generous seating area outside, but it isn't really sheltered, apart from an awning that isn't always out. I've been informed that it's an automated system and it doesn't like windy conditions. Consequently these don't see so much use during the colder/wetter days apart from the occasional smoker. On wet days even they tend to favour the shelter of the arches by the entrance rather than brave the rain. PS I've noticed that some reviewers found the staff unhelpful when it came to suggesting suitable nets. This hasn't been my experience at all and, furthermore, you can also ask to taste the beers. Obviously you can't expect to taste all 19, nor does it apply to the bottles/cans, but with the menu as a guide, two or three should be enough to find one to your liking and no one's ever quibbled about asking to...
Read moreMother Kelly's is simply one of the best craft beer bars in London. They always have a wide selection on tap and even more in the fridge (which is helpfully organised by type). Whether you go crazy for sours like me, are more into yours stouts, or are all about the IPAs, you will always find something to suit your fancy. They provide appropriate sizes to the strength of the beer on tap as well - i.e. 1/3 of a pint standard for an 8% beer - which is helpful, cause I've been to some places that will indiscriminately give you a pint of 8%+ beer! The staff I've encountered over the many times I've been here are always helpful with suggestions and letting you taste things, or recommending alternatives if they're out of your first choice. Of course it's more expensive than your average beer joint, because it's craft beer. You come for something a bit different, not your standard lager (thought they do have a nice selection of those too). Especially great to visit in summer when you can sit outside. They also have street food vendors who set up some nights (summer weekends I think) and those can be quite good. A...
Read moreOnce upon a time used to like this place but my last 3 visits have been increasingly bad. The ambience is awful past 7pm it gets very loud, very busy and the doorman on my most recent visit was incredibly rude to the point I left despite a full plate and full pint. It was actually my first date out with my husband since having a baby so it’s not exactly like I was in some rowdy group. Anyway there is a food truck just opposite which changes and is usually pretty good food, and there are a large number of taps though some of the beers are quite standard for London and any that aren’t feels heavy on odd Belgium or sour beers or super high % alcohol. Outside area is nice but you get rushed inside at like 9 or 10. Staff otherwise is fine, their food is okay but expensive and limited in choice. I won’t ever come back based on my last experience but even before then for me it’s gone gradually down hill - meanwhile more and more local pubs and bars are offering a varying and large...
