Fish Lounge — Restaurant in London

The Fish Lounge (Brixton) is quite simply the place to go for first class Fish and Chips. The owner (Gus) and his family run a spotlessly clean establishment. The staff are superb, polite and friendly which adds to the ambience of the place (no pun intended).

Just last night, I bought a large Cod and Regular Chips. When I got home, as usual, I had to cut the Cod in half and put a piece of it on (2) separate plates. Similarly, I divided the (regular) Chips between each plate and both plates were full. Having enjoyed one plate last night, I have now just had the other plate for brunch, before heading into the City for a couple of appointments.

To conclude, the Fish Lounge always delivers consistently tasty, well-cooked food. Gus, is always up for a chat about football and/or politics and I like a number of the regulars enjoy the banter. It's also a relaxed, comfortable place for those that want to eat-in. Furthermore, the customers are a friendly bunch, I've often enjoyed conversations with people I'd never met before whilst waiting...

CHECK YOUR BILL. The food was great but they struggle with ethics. The fish and chips were crispy and dry. All was well until the bill came. I was charged £5 for a small bowl of salad and £2 for each drink. When I questioned the price all hell broke loose. The price on the board said drinks were £1. When I informed the waiter that legally they are supposed to sell it for the price advertised he started getting emotional and raising his voice. I asked him why he was getting so animated. He said it was because he is Italian - hmmmm. I wish I had taken a picture of the board and the bill. I surely would have taken the matter further. Not everyone can...

Definitely a top spot for classic fish and chips. We visited on a mid-afternoon Saturday so we nearly had the place to ourselves. Made for a very personal experience with ownership. Great people!

We had a lunch special classic cod with chips and drink, a large skin on haddock, and a side of mushy peas.

Both pieces of fish were Perfect, light and crispy batter on the outside and flakey on the inside. So fresh and hot!

The wife said the mushy peas were really good as well. I won't touch the things. LOL
