🚇 Blackheath 🍺 £6.80 Asahi
O’Neill’s is located just south of the heath in the heart of Blackheath in Southeast London. The nearest station is Blackheath mainline.
This pub was originally called The Three Tuns and has a history dating back to the 18th century. This former Charrington’s pub appeared in CAMRA’s first printed edition of The Good Beer Guide published in 1974.
This is a medium sized one bar pub that has a contemporary feel. The servery is situated on the right hand side and is clad in metro style tiles. In front of the servery is the main bar area, as you head further back you’ll find a raised seating area with comfy booths, at the rear of the pub is a small outside space. The decor consists of exposed brickwork, a boarded floor, a mix of seating, an eclectic mix of prints and some funky lighting fixtures.
The beer line up will please the masses and offers a range of well known keg favourites. I opted for an Asahi, my pint was great, price point was to be expected. The food menu has lots of different comfort food options including Spice Bags and Burgers, there are traditional pub grub choices too, Fish & Chips costs £13.75.
I visited around 2.30pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon in June. There were about a dozen or so local punters in attendance plus a middle aged man walking around the pub taking loads of photos. There is a nice local pub feel to this place, the atmosphere was laidback and friendly. The service was excellent, the upbeat bar staff were welcoming and courteous.
This was one of my favourite pubs I visited on my crawl around Blackheath. I loved how relaxed and down to earth this pub felt compared to some of the more upmarket pubs close by. I have been to a number of O’Neils pubs and they have been decidedly average, but not here. @oneills_blackheath is definitely well worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Read moreWould love to be able to provide a rating on the food and drinks but was not given the opportunity. We arrived just before 7pm on a quiet Tuesday. We had our 3 kids with us who were all starving after a big day exploring London. I checked out a few places on Google before we arrived in the area to find somewhere that looked kid friendly and seeing that O Neill's had a kids menu and we haven't had any issue in other O Neill's in the past we figured this would be a good option for us. Unfortunately as soon as we walked in the front door we were made to feel totally unwelcome. It wasn't busy, but the few people at the bar stared at us like we had 2 heads. We were then abruptly told by the female bar tender that kids weren't allowed after 8pm. I said that should be ok as we just wanted to grab a bite to eat so she said that was fine and brought kids menus over to our table. We were then left to choose all of the food. However as soon as I stood up to order, I was informed by the same staff member that they had decided to close the kitchen immediately ( apparently because it was so quiet - despite the fact we were about to order over £100 worth of meals and drinks) and we could not order any food. Resulting in 3 very upset, hungry children. This seemed utterly ridiculous and appeared to just be done because either they couldn't be bothered to serve us, or they just didn't want a family in there. All very...
Read moreMyself, My Wife & My Dog attended O'Neils on a Monday at 1pm and there were 8 people total in the pub occupying 3 tables. We ordered food at the bar at around 1.15pm then we waited...and waited as food started finally arriving at the other occupied tables around us about 40min wait into our food order (Bearing in mind that the other 3 tables occupants had been there since before we had arrived & none of them had been up to the bar since our arrival). Then at 2.20pm the barman approached me and told me that they didn't have what I had ordered. 1H5M after we placed the order.!!! He then told us that the food was late due to the chef not being available so the manager was cooking the food. We were outraged and demanded a refund! I mean, why could they have told us this before we ordered instead of making us wait over an hour before not only telling us the bleeding chef wasn't there but that they didn't have the food that we had ordered?! To add insult to injury. We also had to wait for the manager to finish cooking to come and authorise the refund! Obviously will not be attending this establishment again, nor do I suggest that you do either. Absolute...
