I'd give Oishi 3.5 stars.
Oddly located underneath a section of the M4 motorway, it's not the most salubrious place to go looking for Japanese cuisine. Parking is a potential issue right from the start, illustrated by the constant click'n'collect / home delivery orders catered for during our stay. But if you manage to overcome this, you are rewarded with a spacious and modern interior. At this point, we immediately noted the rather grimy looking fish tank proudly on display (think Finding Nemo!), and hoped this was not indicative of the food that was to come (food hygiene rating was 4 out of 5). The menu was fairly comprehensive and our party of 2 kids and 3 adults settled for the 60 piece mixed platter and a couple of starters (another mixed affair plus some duck gyozas). Fortunately, the grubby fish tank did not reflect the food quality however, for me, the overall taste could have been a little more punchy. I don't know what it is about duck gyozas, but somehow they always fail to hit the spot. Perhaps I'm expecting too much like a Chinese shredded style. The mixed tempura starter was good when you found a piece of prawn or squid, and the veggie findings were quite tasty, but I would have liked to see a bit more (shell)fish on offer. Likewise with the mixed main platter: it was just a bit too stingey on the nigiri / sashimi front with not enough real fish! But it had pretty good taste throughout and the wasabi was strong enough although lacked that beautiful bright green vibrancy I normally expect, coming more like the anaemic versions you find in sushi Bento boxes from the supermarkets. Service was good (which was expected since we were the only ones there!) although it would have been nice for our server to regularly check and refill our teapot with hot water without us having to constantly ask (a small pot to serve 3 people doesn't...
Read moreI've ordered from here many times and honestly the food is good. But I have to say the service needs a lot of work. I ordered through Uber and didn't receive one of the items we ordered. When I called immediately I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do for me and they definitely put the order in. I was told I'd have to get a refund through uber and order again. If I did that then I would've got the refund on the item but then to re-order I'd have to pay an extra £5+ for service charge, delivery fee and if I wanted it fast a priority fee. Now normally I'd live with that but this is a restaurant that is around 5 mins down the road that provide their own private delivery service and the person on the phone even said they weren't busy. I personally think it's common decency and good customer service to provide the food that a customer has paid for within a good period of time, with or without a third party delivering it. I feel like such a Karen posting this review but I did really aggravate me that there was nothing the restaurant could do for me and felt it appropriate to share...
Read more3 days later after being promise a refund, still nothing!
They used to be always on time, however since the past 3 months, deliveries are always running late ; not even a curtesy call. Their excuse is always: "it is busy tonight". If you know your Fridays are busy, why not put more people on or inform accordingly. Over 30 minutes late without fail, I wouldn't eat from here if you got plans or hungry.
The worst part is that you can hear the manager telling her, "tell him they is a issue with our app tonight". I didn't order via an app and when I first called is was due to be there is 10 minutes. Surely you would have known that first time round. They then announce they will refund and don't even try to care.
We ordered on a weekly base here and will happily spend it somewhere else!
Don't waste your time with this place with a take away.
