Terrible Sunday Roast Experience I’ll stress first up we’ve eaten here midweek for lunch (when it’s been very quiet) and it’s been good. So we booked here for Sunday roast under recommendation to celebrate my Mums birthday; oh dear! First off - “table service only today” so no pre meal drinks unless sitting down. Call me a cynic but bar service possible when the local team at home so was this an approach to get “service charge” on top?

No matter, sat down with the family and the afternoon commenced. Ordered from the set roasts within 15 mins and sat amongst a pub about a third populated.

40 minutes later had to chase up another pint for me old fella and also asked where the lunch was. Told it’ll be chased up.

10 mins later the one beef dish we’d ordered is placed on table. No sign of the four lamb dishes so the beef dish started only to find it was at best luke warm, but in the main cold. Waitress called over and back to the kitchen with that.

8 mins later four lambs are placed in front of us and you guessed it….. all cold. Sides of cauliflower cheese hot in the middle, cold elsewhere.

Back to the kitchen and returned 10 mins later. Annoyingly yet again all five dinners nowhere near hot but we were so hungry we started eating. Now for the odd part… for some reason all five dishes second time around tasted hugely of salt. Why? Didn’t originally and we felt this was some form of “F you” from the kitchen; ruined for most but I was so hungry I’d of eaten my own ankle so I ate on. The other four left almost everything. Then we realised the extra sides of cauliflower cheese hadn’t reappeared!!!

Not sure what else they could’ve got wrong. We were offered deserts on the house but simply couldn’t trust these would be right (plus I had work on Monday and needed to be home in time for that!!!)

To their credit it was finally offered food on the house with only drinks to pay for. Only right as four out of five left here starving and really annoyed that a birthday ruined. I was personally annoyed that not once did anyone who seemed to be in charge come up and apologise. The waitress staff were lovely and blamed the kitchen saying they were embarrassed. I do feel it was all a bit shoulder shruggy though.

Waste of good food. Waste of an afternoon out. Waste of money

Plenty of other places to try...

I had a very poor experience today in this pub...we were 5 of us and whilst we have lunch together we have paid separately. First two of my friends paid and left the pub whilst the rest of us stayed behind. I was the last to pay and was requested to pay for a glass of wine that was 'still outstanding.' I looked confused and asked the waitress why didn't she charge the other 2 people for payment before they left. She simply said that my friend told her the items they had and paid for it but they didn't mention the wine. I asked again why didn't she tell them instead of assuming that one of us who left behind will pick anything up???! She then raising her voice told me that any outstanding item is my responsibility as she was my friend and we sat together. The supervisor's explanation was equally nonsense. I suggested that being in this industry it is expected to know what guest are consuming and that staff should pay attention. At this point the waitress simply left me. After refusing to pay me back(because I generously paid for it) the supervisor just told me-'I guess we're just not as good in service.' I replied-you said it.

I guess it describes perfectly the quality of...

I arrived just before 1pm for Sunday lunch. The Sunday lunch was good with a very generous helping of the main meat option. However, the vegetables were a bit on the stingy side in proportion to the meat and so I was obliged to purchase an additional portion (which included potatoes) for £4.95. I thought this was reasonably priced, though I could not understand why the extra portion was served on top of paper underneath that could tear; rather inconvenient. The Yorkshire pudding was very greasy and tasted mostly of oil. When I asked for extra gravy, I was given a large bowl of nice hot gravy, free of charge (though without a spoon with which to serve it).

The service was extremely good, from professional staff who exhibited a can do attitude. It was a hot day so when I asked to move from the main lounge, the staff were able to reseat my husband and me in the conservatory area which was more airy and very pleasant.

Overall, a...

I went here for a business meeting, the atmosphere of the pub was excellent. It wasn't meant to be a long business meeting we only had a couple of drinks with our starters. The individual with me ordered an orange juice, with a veg mezze and I had a cider. I was surprised to see that the orange juice was served in half pint glass from a supermarket juice box over the counter and we were charged £2.50 for it. Now, I understand this may be standard practice at pubs these days. However, part of us did feel unfairly charged. We took a seat in the outside seating area and carried on our conversation only to realise that our food never arrived for at least half an hour, when we asked we were told that there are two tables in the pub with the same number. Now, I have heard some excuses, but this was something else. Overall I felt it was a good pub, but they can improve on their customer service.

Lovely local pub. Great atmosphere at various points in the day. It’s our local, so I normally come here for a pint after work, but I’ve been here to watch some football on the various screens, and sometimes they have the cricket on which is always a bonus. The staff are great and all very friendly and welcoming. On Sundays when it is busy, they will try and accommodate you for a seat if you’re just there for a drink or to watch the TV, but obviously it can get a bit busy for Sunday roast (reservations are advised!) The food is good, at the usual mid-price point for pubs outside Central London these days, but it comes out quickly, even when it’s busy. Never been in here on a match day when Brentford are playing at home, but there always seems to be a good atmosphere when walking past. The Guinness is always good here (9/10), but £6.05.

Adult - Choose up to 3 Meats - Sirloin of Beef, Leg of Lamb, Turkey Breast, Pork Loin or Gammon Homemade Nut Roast is also available. All meals are served with a choice of roast & mashed potato, peas, carrots, honey roasted parsnips, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding & gravy Staff were extremely friendly both behind the bar and the food serving area. You basically choose what meat you are going to have and pay for it and then you go to the food counter where you can let them know if there are any vegetables you don’t want. The meat was good, but seemed to lack a bit of flavour, lovely selection of vegetables. The pub is very family friendly, but the back room overlooking the garden is very noisy once tables start to fill. Definitely need to book as very popular.
