I've been coming to this sushi place since they have been open, and when they were originally doing the sushi at the original Sakura store a few stores down.
I lived in Japan for 3 years, and I've always found it difficult to find a good local sushi place and needed to venture into Soho for a decent sushi place. Since this place opened, I've rarely needed to venture into town for my sushi fix.
The food here is not only fantastic, it's so reasonably priced that we find ourselves ordering more often as it doesn't break the bank. Sushi here is prepared and served as it is in Japan, everything is made to order and nothing is pre-prepared and sitting stale in a refrigerator. It does mean that sometimes your order may overrun its estimated pick-up time, but for me that's something I'm completely fine with knowing that my sushi is being prepared fresh. It makes a huge difference to the quality and taste when sushi is prepared right before being consumed, as it is done in Japan.
This is a family run place and the Burmese couple who run it are the friendliest people you will ever meet. They are always happy and smiling and genuinely so happy every time I'm there to pick up my food. It's really fantastic that they are always busy and a real testament to their care and dedication to the food they make.
It's always our go to place when we have friends over, and it always gets high marks from our friends. It's a really great local place and has really made a great difference to the food options in the area.
Very highly...
Read moreWent there first time, parking free after 6.30pm around the back. Hard to find free parking at the front. I went and ordered, knowing what I wanted and was told to wait 15 minutes. Was offered free miso soup and a top up during this time. Place looks clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and told me next time to call first then collect to save me from waiting for to long. The food was very nice. I liked the salmon, very fresh. Tuna not so much.
very good size portion, value for money very fresh and the rolls are well made would recommend number 69, the salmon and rice ratio makes the experience very good.
tuna sashimi and sushi does not taste good, would not recommend. the prawn tempura dragon roll tasted like old oil has fried it so would not recommend that also salmon/tuna nigiri, the rice to salmon ratio is not right, too much rice and makes you feel full.
My friend ordered the spicy rolls and said it was really spicy. Miso soup a bit salty.
Would 100% recommend but certain items I would not order again, some items are better value...
Read moreThis is the new sister shop of Sakura. Thankfully they have maintained their incredibly high standards.
Today I ordered the new Salmon sushi and sashimi lover Box. It was sensational. Excellent value. Fresh and generous portions. I also ordered the eel nigiri which is the best that I have ever tasted.
It is a bit of a trek for me to get there since they moved from Aldersbrook. But absolutely worth it. They never disappoint. This remarkable young couple are so warm and welcoming that it is a delight to go to Ookii or Sakura. Bless them for bringing so much pleasure to so many in...
