Visited Pasticcio for breakfast on Sunday for the first time after walking by it hundreds of times. Pasticcio has a British Cafe feel and decor with an Italian menu. The interior is dominated by a fridge unit and an open kitchen which provides a glimpse of the chef at work. The floor space consists of rows of tables for two people with a larger table accommodating six on one of the corners. The place maintains a degree of cozyness yet the decor is tired. The place could do with some freshening up. The service was efficient and attentive.
The breakfast menu consists of the traditional English breakfast dishes, basic salads and sandwiches with the notable absence of bacon rolls and porridge. The prices where in line with what you expect from a cafe - around 5.00 to 6.00 for a main. The portion sizes are average - the eggs and salmon I ordered was generous but the salmon slices were thin. Pasticcio offers no frills breakfast with a non fancy simple...
Read moreFrom the outside I always I presumed this was a normal cafe, nothing special. Fortunately a person who lives locally told me about it and I went in with them.
As soon as I walked in I realised it's a nice place, with a real feel of classic Italian food.
The tiramisu is amazing, I have a hard time saying this because it sounds nuts, but it was the best tiramisu I've ever had in my life. Maybe it was full fat cream or something else, but it was amazing.
I had the veal for the main course which was also really good and nicely done.
Normally I get drawn into the big mass chain places, which are all style and and the food itself is low quality. This is the real deal with less of the hype. Most of the customers are locals who come back regularly as they appreciate good food.
I will definitely come back and I'm very glad to have had this recommendation, it is special in a way few are. An owner run restaurant with a real knowledge of...
Read moreDelightful, old-school Italian eatery with a mellow, café vibe in the day and homely, uplifting restaurant feel in the evening. The décor has charm and character, which are missing in so many places these days. First off, friendly staff, and house red was very pleasing. To eat, I tried the smoked salmon spaghetti; delicious, nice size portion, and a tight, flavourful cream sauce. Accompanying this I enjoyed mixed grilled veg; it's always a good sign when there is care and attention applied to vegetables, as was the case here. I also loved that chef made the effort to give you a variety within the dish; peppers, courgette, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, artichoke...finished with spinach leaves and balsamic, lovely. For dessert, I spotted orange cake with a chocolate coating...yes please! I live locally and I'm absolutely looking forward to...
